Lance from Swampland Tackle? I bought allot of supplies from them. He and Bill Stephens were good friends, and Swampland went out of business. I just placed an order with VooDoo Rods and I see they are out of Louisiana too, just wondering if Lance may be involved. Steve

I tie my own pompano rigs and dropper rigs when surf fishing and I put each of them in those little bags to keep the organized and separated. They work great.

WOW, thats allot of work. I was on a similar mission a couple years ago, I wanted to build a telescopic surf fishing rod that I could fit into my wifes car for beach trips. I had a 7.5 telescopic blank and I extended the butt section 12". I wanted to be able to take advantage of as much of the telescoping as possible, so I found a piece of a blank with the same taper as mine and slid it

Alex, Being a Machinist I love a challenge like this. You should be able to build what you want off of something like a Channel Lock Ferruled Reel Seat set up from Mudhole and a fighting butt of your choice and some scrap rod blank pieces. Take a look at them and let us know. Good Luck

I guess I am lucky as I have never had any problems with a 2nd coat. If the rod has sat a couple days I have wiped the wraps with an alcohol rag to remove dust but usually I just apply the 2nd coat without doing anything at all.

I received an email asking me to log in to the new state of the art website. I logged in and the first thing I noticed was all my past order history was gone. I sent them an email asking about it and was given the response above. I guess that's okay but I work midnight shift and that is typically when I place orders and that is when I need my past information and I'm pretty sure there is nobod

Mark, I am interested to see how you are securing the guides too. I use my own version of the Forham wrap, I do 4 "locking" wraps. 2 each way then a couple jam wraps. I have used this on all my builds using single foot micro guides, and I have repaired plenty of rods with micro guides too. Watching the video Roger posted, I am wrapping way too tight. Steve

I have built over 130 rods since starting this hobby, every one hand wrapped. I bought a used power wrapper from this site many years ago and still have not set it up, no room for it. I am completely satisfied wrapping by hand, I don't think I am missing anything. I make my living working with my hands and that translates over to rodbuilding easily for me. As mentioned above I am in total con

I believe the sequence will be 1, 2, 3 going back in. The chuck may be numbered too but I don't think it matters which groove you start with, just start with #1 jaw. Steve

I have gone to my local Dicks Sporting Goods before and asked them if they had any scrap golf club shafts they were throwing away. They replace the shafts all the time for customers and just throw them away. Those should work for you and they work well for other misc. repairs too. Steve

You should be able to ream the I.D. up to the dimensions you need. Maybe run a drill through it first but be careful as they will tear up the EVA pretty easy if you are not careful

I don't typically do a bunch of rods at one time, and I just have a single dryer set up. I usually let mine run 7 or 8 hours to be safe, or run all night if thats how it works out. The thumbprint test is good if I am going to immediately be handling the rod like delivering it to a customer, I've made that mistake before. My question was intended more towards the epoxy being dry enough so it wo

I'm always hesitant to take a rod out of the dryer until the epoxy is set and no longer tacky. But I feel that is over kill, so is there a set amount of time you'll let a rod dry before taking it out of the dryer without worries of the epoxy running? Steve

I've built a couple CF grips and they can be tricky. Looks like there is allot of work involved in everything you did Mark and it looks great.

Woke up this morning and found a bunch of old rods for sale on marketplace for $20. Messaged the guy and went to meet him. I got a bunch of fiberglass rods and some graphite too that I can use for repairs and what have you. A Shimano Aeroglas Rod has this stripper guide, never seen this before. It is spring loaded and folds down for storage I guess when not in use. Also, I got a custom rod out

I like the grips and have not had any problems with wear on my own personal rods. And I have put them on plenty of customer rods too. I have replaced 1 set of grips on a customer rod twice, for some reason he has wore out the orange and brown ones. On a positive note, I contacted the company about the wore out grips. We went back and forth with questions and answers and they sent me 4 sets of

I really like the guides for the purpose listed and IMO the #5 runners would be the smallest I would go when using braid and a leader. I am using #6 for all my own rods that I build. I have some factory built rods with these guides and smaller runners and have trouble with the knots. I ended up replacing the tip top with a #5. Good Luck Steve

I just want to recognize Kathy and Kelli from The Rod Room. I am in Orange Beach for the weekend so I stopped in the shop to grab a few things I needed. Kelli spent about an hour with me talking to me and showing me options for building a detachable butt rod. Kathy also took time to share information too as she was putting epoxy on a couple builds. I would highly recommend giving these ladies a c

Roger, Thanks for the input. I am new to any heavy build like this so I figured I could work out all the details around the detachable butt by converting the rod I already have. A 2 piece rod may be in the future but I just have to give this a shot. Russ, Thanks for all your suggestions. Shark rod, yes. And I am wondering about the strength too since it will only be glued into the ferrul

I am looking to convert a 1 piece heavy spinning surf rod into a 2 piece rod by using a removable reel seat and rear grip section. I see a couple options for buying complete sets with an aluminum rear grip, but I would like to build my own using an aluminum reel seat w/ ferrule. The only option I am seeing is a Pacific Bay Channel Lock seat, are there any other options currently available? Th

As mentioned above, I have built several rods for trout and redfish from "popping' blanks, new and discontinued. Also, I am really liking the Winn Grips on these rods and so are many customers. Steve

The rod blanks they use are 1 piece. I’ll take a look at the Aftco and American Tackle products. We cast some baits with big spinning gear and drop baits with kayaks too. Yes, they put up a fight. Right now we got a couple big senators and my son bought an Avet. We really are not targeting any specific shark, just wanna catch them. We are mostly fishing in the gulf. We have caught black t
