My son and I have gotten into land based shark fishing. I have been seeing some unique rod builds being used by several people and I need some help figuring out what they are doing. They are using 2 piece rods around 8 to 9 feet long that break down right in front of the handle. It looks like they have a threaded reel seat and the rod threads onto it? Some have 2 different rod set ups that use the same handle. I am new to building any kind of heavy salt rods, can you guys please provide some information on the materials being used and recommend someplace to get them?

Batson has a line of 2 piece surf rod blanks with a 70-30 split design.

do these rods have aluminum butt on them because a trolling butt screws in at the top and you can get extra ferrules to use other blank section with them.

This sounds like what you are looking for but from shore you will need a tree to tie yourself to if you get a shark over 100#'s.

MudHole just released a video about drone fishing for shark, and caught about a 75# black tip with it, call them up and see what they have that will work for you (by the way the were using 50W internationals).

What species of shark do you expect to catch? In east-central Florida fishing from shore Blacktips and Sharpnose are the most common sharks caught, although some specialists target Hammerheads and other big pelagic sharks from the shore. On the central east coast of Florida I favor ten to twelve foot rods with Slosh 30 reels loaded with #40 or #50 line for fishing chunk bait on bottom. I sold my pick-up truck so I use two-piece rods. They don't seem to make much difference from one-piece rods in casting or catching. Lots of line, a reliable drag, and good fish fighting technique reduce the need for "gorilla gear", and you are going to release the sharks you hook - I hope.

The rod blanks they use are 1 piece.

I’ll take a look at the Aftco and American Tackle products. We cast some baits with big spinning gear and drop baits with kayaks too. Yes, they put up a fight. Right now we got a couple big senators and my son bought an Avet.

We really are not targeting any specific shark, just wanna catch them. We are mostly fishing in the gulf. We have caught black tip, spinner, several big nurse sharks and a mice hammerhead. And we got an Atlantic sharpnose this year too.
