I'm looking to build a couple of trolling convential reel rods for king fish/mahi mahi trolling. I'll be using TLD 25/30 size reels and would like a 7ft. length. I really like the suggestions on MHX blanks but interested in any other suggestions?

I have built at least 8 using this Mudhole blank and you won't be disappointed. My customers and myself build it a a spinning rod and use it for senko fishing. Great casting distance, feel and strength to get the big bass out of hydrilla & eel grass.

Thanks for all the advice. At first I just tried to remove the name portion of the decal. Thus I put masking taps over the part of decal I wanted to save. The heated with heat gun on low setting. Used to back of a plastic knive to rub off the name. Decided at that point to remove the whole decal. Caught an edge on the decal with a razor blade & was able to lift the remaining decal off th

Need to change name on a finished rod. Decal has one coat of finish under decal & one over. Should I just apply some heat from heat gun & carefully scrape the area that needs changing? Or is there a better way?

If your looking to build a spinning senko rod, I would recommend ATC Viper Mag Bass - AVMB-844 from the MudHole. I originaly set this rod up for skipping soft plastics under docks for Snook but found it made an excellent rod for senko fishing. Being in Florida, I have taken bass over 8lbs( still looking for my 10lbder) in the stump laden areas of the Stick Marsh or the grass & pads in the K

I thought I saw someplace if you cut off some from the end of a blank the blank would change from a fast tip to an extra fast tip. Is this true? The reason I ask that I have a customer who wants to replace a Shimano blank he broke (CPC-X66MB 6"6" 8-17lb 1/3-3/4oz -Medium power - Extra fast action). He also wants it to be 7ft now. Thanks for all your help in advance. Mike

I would go to the team website. Their store should have some decals or tattoes small enough to use on a rod. I have built several Redskin rods for friends & that's how I came up with decals, etc. Another site is www.skinit.com. They have all kind of stuff that you maybe able to use. Hope this helps. Mike

I have built 2 Redskin rods for myself & clients. I got some decals that I could use on a blank direct from the Redskins own online store. I would check there to see if they may have a decal sheet you could use. Mike Clements

George: I just build a Calstar GF700H for grouper fishing using the following spiral wrap measurements: 13 3/4" rear grip including gimbal. 5 1/4 " ATC Alumium reel seat then a 10" forgrip. I used the new ATC Virtus Heavy guides with the butt guide a #16 @ 19 1/2 inches from middle of reel seat. This guide was offset to the left about 5 degrees. I used #12 for the remaining

Order a decal for my son's rod from Decal Connection. I made a mistake putting it on & ended up with air pockets after I expoxied. Didn't want to start over so I decided to over wrapped with 2 threads like a tiger wrapped. Once I heated with hair dryer, waited 45 minutes then pulled out my sacifice thread the air pockets are gone. The look is different but I like it. (See photo posted)

Scott; I use this blank for throwing Yozuri 3D minnows & small Rapala jerk baits. It works great & u can throw them a long way. Maybe a little lite for Senko's. I use ATC Viper Mag Bass for Senko's here in FLA. Either the 6 1/2 or the & 7 ft. Just built an AVMB-844-BL from MudHole set it up for spinning & on first cast landed a 2 1/2 lb largemouth on a Senko. Mike

MudHole carries those blanks. I'm working on an 8wt blank right now. Everything I've heard indicates they are great blanks for the cost. Mike

I've just purchased a TFO 8 wt blank for my first fly rod attempt. The blank is a beautiful 4 piece blue blank. the male ends are painted grey in color. When I put the sections together a small portion of the grey male end shows, a little less then a 1/2 inch. My questions is should this portion of the male end that is showing be wrapped with thread like the female end. Thanks in advance fo
