Something that's irritated me for a while, and I've tried several ideas with less than ideal results; at least once a week I'll have a boat rod in for repair that I put on my rod lathe, only to have the chuck loose its grip on the tapered gimbal during the re-wrap. I guess i need a suggestion to make a thin set of soft jaws if that will give me a better grip on the tapered stuff, but thought

My response would be that he could enjoy the rods received for the price he paid, or return them for a complete refund. I wouldn't send him a dime and let him keep the rods if you have everything documented as you've stated. It might sting a little, but I'd never give him the satisfaction of looking at those rods knowing he burned me. I want to please my customers and I bend over backwards to

I second that Ken, 100 yard spools just don't cut it for me either. I do like the color selection but passed on ordering some this week be

Roger, I used Chroma Seal on my last one and it turned out fine, I have also used U-40 Color Lock 2 with really good results. I think just about anything you have would work fine as long as you get a couple really good coats on it. The Chromaseal locks it down pretty quick.

Trying to find a Shakespeare blank that the BWC 1120 5'6" was built on. Client loves his off the shelf but wants a custom build on this blank if I can locate it. It is 5'6", one piece, rated 3/4-3, heavy action, line 15-25. I have shown him a room full of better choices (IMO) but he wants to go this way if possible. thanks for any help.

Is it possible to take a hood off the lock nut on a reel seat? I've never tried but it seems possible to me; I've got a painted reel seat that I want to change from silver to gold hood. Thanks!

I'm curious if I can add Flex Coat High Build Ultra V to my pumps that have a small amount of Flex Coat High Build (regular formula) left in them. I don't want to go through a toatal clean out of my pumps if I don't have to. Thanks for your input.

Most of the time when I do repairs on Ugly Sticks and a few others that use painted tags, I stop the old thread and epoxy removal just before getting into the painted tags, rewrap the new guide up to that line and apply epoxy. I lightly scuff the epoxy over the painted tags before the rewrap, works great for me.

I came into some blanks this past weekend, and in the group are 2 CosmoTech 1062sp blanks. I'm not familiar with these and online searches have shed no light on these. Any info regarding specs and retail value would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Walt

Sure would like to see Fishhawk put out an Electric or Royal Blue metallic like Gudebrod 9245, I hate using gudebrod metallics, but that color is a common choice from my clients.

You might also consider the Lami GSB 1502 2pc 12'6" rated 6-16, it throws 8&bait very well. I usually cut the tip down to 12'3". The 16oz rating would be tough for this blank(and most that I know of), but for most it will handle 8-10 very well, it also works very well in the 6oz range.

I just use an order form that I made up partially based on what I've seen on this forum and partially based on what works best for me. I get a lot of clients that leave just about everything up to me other than the blank (even the blank with some); and then I have some come to me with very specific wants. I know I can't remember everything so my order form is there with all my notes and a cus

Thanks Gary, I gave the steam a try as well as a little warm water bath to no avail. I finally manned up and sanded out the offending divet; turns out it was so slight the difference in size is unnoticed.

Last night I was working on a split grip on a surf rod; this afternoon I notice on the butt grip what I can only descibe as a wrinkle (maybe a better word is divet) in the EVA; I have tried to manipulate the grip with my hands to make it look the way it's supposed to, but it remains the same. Do any of you have a suggestion to correct this problem other than sanding it out? The grip is the exa

Pretty good list there Roger; one of the links had a pretty sweet 1/3 horse Shop Fox with variable speed for under 200, that would be great fo cork and eva for sure.

Don't get discouraged, you're not getting shut out. You recognize that it could be better and you're searching for solutions, I think that makes you just what this craft should be all about; men and women wanting to build the best rods possible.

Steve, I'll be honest and tell you that just about every closed wrap I do has some overlap of the last few threads at the small end of the taper, no matter how careful I am with the layout. Here's how I deal with it; I always space my wrap 1 pattern longer than I really want, when I'm through with the dec wrap I make a few wraps of thread where I want the pattern to end then apply CP to the de

Bill, I think the whole point of this rod for him is to make it a surprize for her; the best I can do is offer him some options and suggestions. I've never built on the amtak blanks, and they do cost a little more, but I might have to order a couple just to take a look at them myself; thanks for the suggestion John Thanks for all the input guys

Well I was waiting for that Alex; yes all the same fish; but what I'm hearing from the client is that his wife rarely fishes, and that they are mainly pier and sometimes surf. Around here you can usually get away with 4oz most days to hold bottom. If she's anything like most of the women that fish in my family there won't be a lot of 6oz throwing. I'm gonna put them both in front of the client an

Thanks guys, I was leaning the same way; sometimes the customer has to be led down the right path, I just wanted to see if there was something out there that fit the original request. I'm thinking about the 1087 after talking to Scott at Fishsticks, it might actually be a better fit for a ladies rod.
