I have only Crappie fished once in my life and that was as a little kid in the 1940's. An acquaintance of my Dad had a large piece of acreage with a big pond on it loaded with Crappie. He and Dad went out and caught a bunch of live minnows somewhere and we fished for the Crappie using a fly rod with mono and trolled very slow by oars with the minnow below a bobber and watching for the bobber to s

There are numerous places to buy blanks at, but until I know the ones you know then it seems like a moving target.

I would like to report the passing of fellow Rod builder and Navy Vet Robert BOB BALCOMBE who used to frequent this site many years ago. He was from the Pacific North West. If you had attended the Seminars at Lamiglas you most probably would have met him or saw a presentation he gave. He was 100% disabled Navy Vet and rod builder. I first Met Bob at the seminar in the 1980s and later his new wife

Braid with no stretch will help hook set.

2. For pull thread, forget about using wrapping thread, or using monofilament line. Rather use 10 lb power pro braided line. It is nice if you use a bright florescent line, to make the line more visible when it is dropped. Also, as you make your pull loops, add a nice bright pink bead at the knotted end of the tie loop. Also make your pull loops a nice generous size, so you are not handicapped by

In the past there used to be a rule of thumb to wrap 1 1/2 of the diameter. I don't wrap that long. Also you might find that if you join the sections together before you wrap the ferrule that the female will compress on the male end and you will have difficulty pulling apart, been there done that.
