I used St Croix placement charts then static testing Started with a 12 stripping guide then a ten and 4 size 8 and 4 size 6 and it works great. I used a Lamiglas blank, dont remember the number right off hand but it was their most expensive 4 pc.

I use a painters spatula available at any art store,, also a rodbuilders spatula gives the same results. I paint on large splotches with a brush and then work the coating with the spatula.

I think I would cut it down to the point I could fit a metal exterior ferrule on it. It would be the only one but with it being on the butt section it would not ruin the asthetics of the rest of the blank.

I have placed the female section inside the end of the blank as well and never had a problem todate. I do this alot when I use fighting butts for split grips, turns out real nice.

The meeting scheduled for April 11, 2009 may have to be postponed as that is Easter weekend. The Central Wisconsin, Central Minnesota group meets once a month. It started out as 2 people and is now 10 builders strong and growing every month. Youi will be notified of the new date if there is one as soon as Tim decides.
Thanks,
Vern

67. Re: Reel Seat
Why not start with Batson, Janns Netcraft handles alot of Berkly products. , otherwise pretty much anyone handles components has them or can get them. Dont forget you will need a fairly accurate measurement of the blank width so the reel seat will be in the proper position on the rod.

Its getting tougher and tougher just to find size 7 much less a 14. I have never found anyone who offers a 14. Good luck and let us know if you find one.

71. Re: diamonds
Ray said it best, I seldom use an under wrap when I do diamonds, I try to match the color of the rod and use contrasting or similar matching threads.

72. Re: Decals
Decal connection does great work, I woiuld suggest checking with your local print shop or investing in the equipment to do it yourself. But far and beyond, DC and Southern Graphics does the best work I have seen.

73. Re: rod building
I can personally vouch for the 4pc travel rod. It is one of the best all around fly rods for the money and for the fact that it is a travel rod. I can get almost just as much (If not more) distance out of it as I can a 2 pc 9.0. Its a great rod.

I agree 8 wt is pretty much overkill for bass, sounds like you would be better off building 2 different rods. And actually Im not sure about muskies in the 40" catagory, Id be a little concerned about that.

I rarely touch the thread with my hands and I also use canned air to blow off all my wraps prior to coating. (We have a cat, not allowed in the shop well Im working but hair still floats). I also wash frequently.

Wire size 1 =5.5 ceramic
Wire size 2 = 6/7 ceramic
Wire size 3 = 8 ceramic
Wire size 4 = 10 ceramic
This came from a Fuji placement and sizing chart, I cant warrant the information. Anything really 10 and above would usually be a ceramic stripping guide anyway.

85. Re: bent blank
I would think with that much bend, belly down will add alot of weitght on the inside of the spine causing a large spine on the completed rod. Id go with Spencer. Either that or hang them from the ceiling , put a weitght on the bottom and warm them until the spine comes out.

All my reel seats end up just left of center just by fate, being right handed I think when you lay down thread and use your dominate eye (right in my case) it just happens. I have yet to have any complaints. The offset is small enough that you cant tell its not centered unless your really looking for it.
I would seriously wonder about offsetting it a large amount for the same reason as Tom bu

I use the water color paint plates used in elementary schools, place the coins in the tray and fill with Threadmaster. They pop right out of the circles with a little help. Then you can either sink them into the cork butt by cutting out the spot or reverse that and use them as a butt cap. Its quick and easy.
