If you intend to work on more than one axis ( ie: fish on one side and initials on the other) or do weaves that wrap the rod you will need the Wonder Weaver in one form or the other. The two wheel version will be just fine for everything but metallic threads. If you want to do a lot of weaves using metallic threads you will do well to get the three wheel version as it controls the long tails o

The fore grip on a rail rod is usually made of Hypalon or EPDM and often that is covered with X tube or cold shrink. They are typically 14 to 16 inches long, Not the area you want put an embelishment. Watch a video on yoiu tube of rail fishing if you can find one and you will get the idea.

John; I put a picture of a tensioning method on the photo page that can be adapted to any type lathe. It will allow you to keep tension on the spool and to determine the amount by changing the weight attached. It will also allow you to back up without loosing the tension. The trick to keeping the nut on the shaft holding the spool from unscrewing itself is to have a shaft with a flat on it and

For long rods you might be thinking of Cork Tape. We use that a lot on jig rods with no reel seat.

I might suggest a Seeker Hercules GTS 70 L or the GTS 80 for medium action or the Seeker Inshore CBS 708 or CBW 709 for a faster tip. Standard spinning, single foot guides should be more than adequate.

Mike, Got it. I'm trying...Ken, I was a Deptuty Fire Marshal before retiring the first time, so I see the truth in what you say. Lee, I learned the paper trick years ago and have tried George's suggestion but someone keeps stealing my clip board. Bill, every employee likes to be recognized so that's good advice. Didn't really expect all this but I think collectively you are all correct, the j

Tim; A word of caution. The rear grip and fore grip will usually have different inside diameters unless you have a real slow taper or small blank. The usual ID sizes are 11/16" and 1/2" however 3/4" is also available.

Nick; Seeker Rod Co. makes a commercial Lift Pole that's 12' in length. The commercial guys use them to fish Albacore. I doubt you would want to pay the shipping for one though. If you are interested go to Seeker's web site and you should find them in the blank catalog.

Try a test wrap on somethin. Size 40 embroidery thread will work. You will need to use color preserver on it to keep it from becoming blotchy and if it's lubricated with a silicone to keep the finish from forming fisheyes.
