Depends on the knots you entend to run through the guide. Otherwise there should be plenty of room for the line.

Sanford; With the simple spiral if the first 180 degree guide is sized as you might for a conventional set up, the line will start by resting in the bottom of the guide. As the rod bends the line must move from the bottom of the guide to the top of the guide. As that transition occurs there is no load on that guide. That increases the stress between the stripper guide and the second 180 degre

Just to make things clear for those that may not realize what has been said here. I think there are those of you that may not realize that a "Bubble Buster" and "Bubble Buster Spray" are two different things. The Bubble Buster is a small squeezable bottle containing alcohol and produces a flame when squeezed on the order of a small blow torch. The spray refered to is a prod

There may be one of several things you might do. The first being to set the next layer of thread on the same level but behind the first, on the tape. That will keep them on the same level. So instead of say six layers stacked six high you will have six layers stacked 3 high. Second, load the tape on the rod from the center working out in both directions and after wrapping the thread down to th

I think many builders just don't realize what a distributor or dealer has invested when it comes to stocking components. Seeker for example is now the West Coast distributor for Pro Wrap threads. Our initial order represents a substantial commitment as well as investment. Then you must realize that all that merchandise has to be stored somewhere and protected from damage or dust and grime. Sp

Take a close look at the Seeker Hercules blanks. They were designed for what you want to do. You can see them on the Seeker web site.

We were using Gudebrod but will be using the closest color match in American Tackles new Pro Wrap. The burgandy was Gudebrod #9008 metallic.

Having good light is also important. If you can't see clearly it really makes thread work difficult. I have found the normal room overhead lighting is usually not good enough, especially for those of us that are a bit older.

Two articles in past issues of RodMaker Magazine, Color Change Weaving in Vol. 6 issue 5 and A guide to thread weaving in Vol. 5 issue 4 may be of help. You might also look into the book, A Guide to Thread Weaving sold by Mud Hole or Acid Rod. Both sponsors on the left.

Charle; A break like you describe is caused by a blank being overloaded or does not have enough material in the blank to meet the design criteria. Since you didn't have a lable on it, how did you decide what weight line to use on it? Most manufacturers will do a lot of testing to be sure they are putting out a product that meets the expected usage but they get fooled on occasion by the way the

Charles; Far be it from me to talk you out of buying my book but are you sure it's a weave you want. To weave a pattern is one thing but to weave it 360 degrees around the rod is quite another. You didn't say specifically what you intend to do so that's why I'm asking. Doing a 360 degree weave for your first weave will certainly make any weave you do after that a piece of cake. A good dea

Take a piece of 400 grit wet or dry sand paper, put a flat piece of wood behind it and sand the surface just enough to take off the high spots. If you feel that you can't do that without exposing the thread, apply another coat of finish and after it dries do the sanding. If for some reason you do expose the thread, and you used color preserver be sure to use it again, prior to applying the fini

Gold Metallic trim and Black regular nylon thread will do just fine. Your only issue will be to find the right color Gold. Madeira has four different Gold colors. I don't remember if Gudebrod has more than one. Fish Hawk has, I think, 4 different Golds and Sulky has some. Good luck.

You might take a look at the Seeker CSW 858. It's a composite 8'6" blank that has plenty of back bone for lifting fish when fishing the breakwall or rocks, long enough and with a size 7 tip that will cast 3/4 to 2 1/2 OZ . As Matt suggests, I would go lighter, the CSW 858 is designed for 15# test and goes 12 (15 ) 20.

As Tom said. I should have read his last line. Just be sure to mark the location on the blank, so you can get the tape back in the same location. Blanks are tapered so your measurement will be spot or location specific. And don't stretch the tape when you put it back on.

The TSF blank is a FAST TAPER blank as stated in the column heading above the list. A fast action blank would be TSF 55 F if there was such a thing.

Scotty; I think you are misreading what you see on the Seeker web site. I can't speak for the Cal Star site but we at SEEKER do not refer to rod action as "Tuna Action" . Most of the Seeker Tuna rods are a fast to medium action and most of the blanks have a fast taper.

I really didn't pay attention to Sanfords post and gave some bad advice. Here is what I sent to his PM after realizing he was looking for a Spinning outfit. I guess I missed something in your post. Had I paid attention and realized you wanted a Spinning rod blank I would have suggested the same as Randy. He and I both built a customer a test spinning rod for the guy to use with his Stella 2

Sanford; Check out the Super Seeker 2X4 . You should be able to find it on our web site. It was made specifically for throwing live bait to the Yellowfin Tuna we get out here on our Long Range trip. Lot's of fish over 200# and a bunch over 300# have been taken using this blank. The blank is 7' in length and made using "S" glass with the EH04 resin system and is rated for 60 - 100
