The old Fenwicks were 33 mil graphite I believe, which puts you in the same category as the Rainshadow Forecast blanks graphite wise. Rods in bass fishing have really gotten longer over the years and the short rods are not in as much favor as they used to be, but there are those that still use them in close combat situations. Everything was 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 back then. They also have changed quit

Tim, The Talon Highlander rods I've fished were easy rods to fish. Angler's Workshop will be able to answer any questions you have on Talon blanks. They have been associated with Talon in the production of their in house blanks for many years. Talon is only a few miles from the shop. Give them a call or send them an e-mail, great people to do business with.

Matt, I think Milt is talking about CTS, they normally only put the white color on their 1 piece blanks, but if you talk to them about what you need and why, maybe they will make a few for you. Great reports about this company from forum members.

Ray, Steve and Todd's suggestions will make some fine steelhead rods for the Situk, also when he goes back south the will make fine walleye rigging rods and redfish/speck rods. The G Loomis HS 9000 is light tipped enough to be fun on trout and dollies also, and super sensitive. Loomis lists it in the steelhead/salmon and Greenwater sections of their rod catalog. I own the 3 piece HSR9000S in GLX

Was just at Angler's Workshop, just wanted to give a heads up on the 30% off existing GUSA blanks sale they have going on today. Part of the inventory I saw there were: B70L B65LXF B70H C600X C601X ASW70H ASW711H ASW85MAG They also had a deal on some Seeker including BS706B S Glass blanks. T&T, Winston IM6, Pac Bay Tradition and Rainforest, Scott G Series. Also they have some good

You haven't given us much to work on. There are no numbers, or anything to go by written on, or taped on the blanks? If not, they could be from any number of places.

Dan Craft used to have some socks for his rods. Nice price, nice heavy duty construction. Your tube inside length, depending on rod construction, probably should be in the 18 inch range and 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 inch dia. REC and others can set you up with a tube, Dan may also have some.

Mike, Masking tape the reelseat side of the reelseat to cork edge, and have at the grip with some sand paper working a little in one place that rotating the grip 1/10 to 1/8 turn so you got new cork under you and just keep working around taking off the same amount in each place as you go. Finish up with 400 or lighter paper, and a sanding block if it's a long straight grip, and you won't know th

Jim, In laymen's terms, Dan's blanks don't have the thick reinforcing extra wrap of graphite at the ferrule that caused that bulge you see where the pieces meet. He has a more straight blank over blank connection and you reinforce it with your thread wrap. Many put a guide on all the ferrules they can, this let's you reinforce the ferrule and hide the ferrule all in one stroke, to where the rod

First thing I'd try would be putting a hand on each piece close together and twist while exerting down pressure, as soon as it's moved a little bit it's done due to the blank's taper. Second put it vertical, double a towel on the floor, put your hands about 18 inches above the ferrule, raise the blank as far as you can and strike the towel with the blank in a straight motion. The bottom piece on

I'm with you Steve, I hope it's just a re-tool like the SCIV blanks. Haven't tried any of the new Rainshadows yet, the old RX7 were heavier in weight than the SCIII blanks I used, with the same line and power ratings. The Rainshadows really hold up well, have some customers that have really put the RX7 fly and spin/cast steelhead blanks through the ringer, so far no problems and they just love th

Steve, Try Mr. Snedden at Rodbuilder Supplies. What I heard from Angler's Workshop, was that you can't get them in the US (out less than a year). Canada as far as I know still gets them and always has.

I'd try Angler's Workshop, about 40 ft from the Lmaiglas factory.

I'm no expert on flipping sticks, but for some Diawa rods I tried in the late 80's I haven't seen to many blanks I would classify as fast actioned, Mod fast maybe. A blank that matches your specs, but is not a telescoping blank is the Lamiglas GLB091MT.

Didn't we get a post a couple months ago, saying they were coming as soon as they perfected the welding on the titanium tip tops?

Phil, Angler's has them and their IM6 instore blanks are Talon's. Good stuff. Getting to see many more of them on the BC rivers when I go up there.

Shane, Yes, the spincast reels work great on a spiral wrapped rod. About the only challenges I've dealt with is partial impairment of hands and arthritis, so I can't help you there.

Peter, Popping rods are more moderate actioned. I think they are easier to cast accurately and keep live bait like a shrimp on because everything is a little less abrupt. Type A people and bass anglers seem to prefer the mag bass blank.

Peter, If it has to be a 2 piece inshore rod I think one of the best I've had in my hands was the P 844-2 G Loomis. If you can go one piece than the world opens up to 4 power popping rods like those from Rainshadow and others or a 3 power mag bass blank. You want the lighter tip if he's going to be throwing live shrimp. Mullet strips or something like it is not so important IMO. Same with hardwa

His tip sizes have been accurate for me so far. He can size the tip on the blank he sends you and let you know what it is, probably no problem.

Peter, There are some two piece inshore/flats blanks that will work in warm freshwater for things larger than panfish. A few heavy freshwater/ med hvy saltwater 2 piece for big fish/ heavy cover fishing also. Is this where you were heading? Did you need a panfish blank in the mix?

Caro, Using the search engine above you'll find many discussions on this subject, and listings of the articles involved. Also I believe Tom has offered reprints of just those articles for a fee someplace back in the archives. All the best to you and yours.

Try diamondbackflyrods.com, they have a dealer section there. Angler's Workshop used to be a dealer, but I don't remember them in this year's catalog.

Bob, The Lamiglas blank I think would be put in the faster blank category above, tight tip that firm up rather quickly in the last half of the blank. The St Croix 3C70MM also mentioned is a sweet blank in the moderate category.

SS 304 is stainless steel. 304 is the grade of steel, the bolts you buy at the hardware store is probably 304 stainless and many times it is stamped so on the bolt's head. 300 series stainless is a marine grade stainless, 400 is food grade, etc. I not particularly impressed with them. Take a piece 8 lb mono, run it thru the guide and wrap it around both hands, now saw it back and forth and count

John, If it's a casting rod it looks about 2 sizes to big on all the guides. I'd start with a spacing of 4.5, 9.5,15, 21, 28, 36, 45.5, 57" than static test it as per the library article above. I'd use a #16 high frame, 12 low frame, 10, 8, than 8 or 7s out to the tip. Just a guess as I don't know what size reel is going on it, 20 lb line is no problem.
