Technically it is supposed to be something like 90% of the cost to be able to claim made in the usa. So short of some fly rods and SW rods with rollers there aren't going to be many others. Although it could be more easily acheived using tube handle's and no reel seat. Todd

Ken, you make a good point but one thing to keep in mind. Both Lamiglas and G Loomis offer blanks not available in finished rods also. Todd

Bob, one of the lucky things is I won't have to go out and buy all new clothes. I'm not quite certain what I'm going to do with all of my cold weather stuff right now though. I'll be back up here frequently enough though that I'll have to keep some. I am looking forward to being back here in April for the Lamiglas rod building weekend and BYOB. We always have a great time there. Jenny and Kendra

Tom, it is funny that you bring up the co-op issue. Lamiglas does offer co-op dollars for advertising to it's blank distributors the same as it does the rod distributors. There are only 2 of these distributors that utilize this money available to them. I spent two years making sure that the distributors were aware of these advertising dollars and just didn't really have any takers. I didn't unde

Fred, I'm a little confused what you are trying to state here. I feel very confident in stating that company's like Lamiglas, St. Croix & G Loomis do want this business. Whether you realize it or not the US manufacturers value the input they get from the rod building community about the product they build or are looking at developing. I'm not sure what you are implying about reading betwe

Mo, yesterday was my last day with Lamiglas. I am very excited to say that I have accepted a position with the team at Mud Hole Custom Tackle. I am also very excited to be in a position to be assisting builders with selection of other quality components along with blanks in the future. Regards, Todd

Mo, it looks as though you will be working with around 40" of the blank between the tip top and first guide up from the reel. If you are looking at staying in the price range of the Alconites I'd recommend you consider the American Tackle Ring Lock guides. You will find better corosion resistance and overall a better quality guide and ring. As far as numbers I would think you would be loo

Actually Karry, Mitsubishi & Toray are Japanese fibers. Both company's have manufacturing in the us also. Currently the only fibers being manufactured in China are large tow standard mod fibers. other top end fibers that aren't manufactured here are made in Europe. And the Loomis Franklin endeavor of the early 80's was a Taiwanese venture and not a manufacturing facility. I have worked in

Owen, may want a fly rod for several of these areas you are visiting. He should be able to build a 7'6" 4wt rod in 3 or 4 pc. that he could take along though. Regards, Todd

Tony, we have a big bait rod designed to throw those type of baits. The 2008 model number on that blank is "XC967". Previously it was "XLB961MH". Todd

Ricky, take a look at the IM700 series of spinning and casting blanks. You will likely find a blank that is very close. Todd

The dip product for coloring lure blades, I believe Jann's sells it works really well. Very tough and doesn't smear, dries very quickly. Todd

Don't forget that for those of you looking for the oversize surf 1pc. blanks you can save on shipping by picking them up there. Just let your dealer who will be showing ahead of time so they can schedule to have them shipped to High Point. Todd

For any that are interested our Rod Building Weekend here at Lamiglas will be the 11th & 12th of April. If you should decide to attend you could observe much of the things discussed here and some will even build their own blank on the 10th & 11th. Todd

We had considered doing this same thing through another internet site last year. It was just the logistics and all that really started to become an issue. Our idea was to then offer a production version of the winning rod in the following years catalog. Having the ICRBE to do the judging and stuff would make it easier to accomplish. Todd

Billy, we have a travel blank we designed specifically to cover the many varied fisheries that you might encounter up here. The model number is XT1023H, it is 8'6", 3pc., 12-25 lb. line, 1/2 - 1 3/4 oz lure. Todd R. Vivian

Skipp, I know of several builders that are building these type of rods for tournament fishers. What has worked out extremely well are 3 or 4 piece traditional action spey blanks in the 14'6 - 15'6" range, 10/11/12 line. While we currently don't catalog these any longer I'm sure you can find what you need through another manufacturer. We did try the faster action models but they did not pe

Hey everyone, Here at Lamiglas we have already begun to receive quite a few inquiries about the 2008 Rod Building Weekend so I figured it was time to get out the initial information. Our event for next spring will be the 10th, 11th & 12th of April. The Seminars will be the 11th & 12th with the BYOB (build your own blank) taking place on Thursday the 10th and Friday the 11th. I’m goin

Darby, I would recommend you flex the blank to the point that it locks in between the 180's, then place the guides accordingly depending upon whether you are building spinning or conventional. Todd

Erik, I would recommend getting a new tip section from the manufacturer and build it as a backup. An impact of that type has most likely damaged the fibers whether they are currently exposed or not. Todd

Dave, having experienced that fishery I think the 8-17lb range would probably work best with a faster action light tip model. The Lamiglas XSH1022MT would be my choice. 8'6", 2pc., 8-17lb. & 1/4 - 5/8 oz lure. Todd
