I was wondering if there are any books or published data on how to turn your own reel seats available. Looking for the type of book that would take you from A to Z, like some of the rod building books that are out there. I'm thinking about buying a lathe this fall and getting some turning stock to make my own inserts for my flyrods. Thanks for any help you may have. Bill

Spencer, thanks for the info. I was wondering about that blank, if it was a "true" 6wt or a bit on the lighter side or a bit closer to a 7wt.

I recently built a 9ft 6in 5wt 3 piece fly rod on a Batson RX-7 blank. Unfortunately I broke the rod near the tip section and it is now on its way out to Batson and hopefully they still have a tip section for this blank since it is not made in the 3 piece configuration. Prior to breaking the rod I let a friend fish the rod and he wants me to make one just like it. Does anyone know of a blank manu

Buddy, thanks for the info. I looked up the static placement method and it does not seem all that difficult to do. I'm going to give it a try and see just how far off the chart that I was going to use is. Thanks again.

I recently bought a diamondback classic western fly rod blank in a 4wt and I have a couple of questions.
I was wondering about the thread wraps on the male and female spigot ferrules, I thinking that both need to have a thread wrap, but how long should they be?
Also wondering about the guide placement, starting from the tip, I'm using the following measurments:
4.5, 9.5, 15.25 ,21.75, 29, 36.5

516. Fly rod spline
Hello, a question/concern on spline for multi piece fly rods. I have read in some books to find the effective spline on a blank to assemble the blank and roll it with some downward pressure on the blank and feel for the hop or roll to its natural curve. My question is that wouldn't it be more effective to roll each section on its own? To me this would make more sense, especially if it is a 3 or m

thanks, I be sure to check that stuff out. I do have a Batson catalog and I'll try calling St Croix too.

I do not know, rod blank is a matte grey color, with what looks to be a greyish green thread wrap. There is also some gold trim wraps on the rod.

Hello, I'm looking for some help here. I have a St Croix Avid Casting Rod, model AC66MHF. The second guide up from the butt section is broken and I was wondering if anyone knew what brand and model guide St Croix uses on their rods. I also would like to know the same for the thread color and brand. I have to try and make a close as possible repair since the rod is owned by someone else. Thank you

Hello, I'm just starting out building some fly rods and I was wondering where I could buy some custom made rod decals that would have the company name on them. Also, is there a specific type of decal that is better than others and what type of finish applies the best to seal the decal to the rod. thank you.
