Go with a Steelhead blank as suggested. I have built a bunch of Crappie rods on this blank, they work great. As Roger said, they have plenty of backbone and very nice tips.

Nuke it about 6 seconds and stir it up, it will be fine. If 6 dont change it back , give it 8.

I think I've been to the last 4 and the food served in the Atrium is great. The girls do a wonderful job. It is really refreshing after a half day of walking and looking and buying to have a place to sit down with a fellow rod builder and have a bit of food and conversation. As for Bills breakfast menu,,, I'll pass, "Duck gravy and biscuits",,, "Boudin",,,,no way ! If you

DR; It can be done exactly like you are thinking. I have replaced single cork rings within a grip. The only problem will be getting the correct ID. When you split the new grip and put it back together the reamed hole is now oval shaped, or shaped like an "EYE" ( because of the saw kerf). The OD of the new grip will no longer be round also, so keep that in mind. You will have to ream it

Would you believe Crickets did that ! I've got one in the same condition, except it's the EVA butt cap. Left in the garage for a week or so. I caught him in the act !

Bill; You are on the right track. An 844 will work great. An MB843 is a good one for 2-3 pounders.Check them out at Swampland Tackle, Sponsor on the left.

I always use the dremel then pop it apart with a flat screw driver even on full contact seats. You don't have to split it 100% to get it to split open with a screw driver. I haven't figured out how to split one with band saw.

Packing the thread simply means keeping all the wraps "packed " up against each other to avoid seeing the blank or the guide foot. You are doing it right. You are also doing the right thing to the guide feet, round the edges over and sharpen the toe and get rid of any burs.

Thanks Tom. That's what I needed to know. I guess I am still a little gun-shy with my Tiger Wraps.

I agree with Roger. My choice is the RCLB series from Batson. Of course they are all one piece, as far as I know.

Thanks Doc, you are a wealth of information on the tiger wraps ! Here 's my problem; The blank is a Black Lami . I showed my client , what I called, Flo Orange Madeira (col # 1987). He wants a Flo Green Tiger Wrap with the Flo Orange trim bands. I don't have the Flo Green Madeira but I think I know where I can get it. My thoughts were to use Black and White NCP for under wrap and Flo Green and

Thanks Mike. The Flo Green color is what I was looking for, not Neon. I was concerned about the Madeira thread being too slick to burnish properly. I have always used Nylon for Tiger Wraps with good results.

Can I get the same effect using Madeira #40 that I could get with regular Nylon "A" ? Has anyone made a Tiger Wrap with Madeira ? I have a client wanting one made with Neon Green top color if I can find that thread.

Jeremy; I am working on one now that is a custom built Surf rod used for Catfish. It was built on a Lamiglass ISU1202M blank. The builder was from Louisville, KY. The owner of the rod had this one built especially for Catfish. He fishes tournaments in Pay Lakes. He said he really liked it for that application. It is rated for 2-4 oz. The MH is rated for 3-8 oz. Mudhole has this blank in stock.

I would be more concerned about rod length than anything. When I'm skipping under docks I 'm casting underhanded with a casting rod. How tall the guy is and is he working from the casting deck on his boat will determine how long the rod needs to be. Personally I can't use a 7' rod while skipping plastics under docks. Of course I was Guard in High School, not a Center.

I have had the same problem with the lighter color threads ( red in particular) and using CP. The "tunnel" area always came out lighter color than the rest of the wrap. In order to get the same color throughout I fill the tunnels with a toothpick , thus solving the problem. I never use but one coat. After it dries, the next coat will not soak through first. I will definitely saturate t

Adam; When I buy blanks, I always buy from the Vendors on the left side of this page. They always come in a plastic sleeve with a sticker on the butt giving the nomenclature of the blank. Some even come with separate decals packed inside the sleeve. When they come packaged this way, I am assured they are top quality, number one blanks. They never have markings on them with a china marker. I woul

Maryann; If you are extending the tip end , tip into butt, you will have to have ferrules, won't work without them. Like Tom said , you don't have the taper-lock. If you want to make the rod 2 feet longer, extend it in the butt end so you will have the taper-lock. If you extend the tip end it must be tip OVER butt or ferruled, one or the other. Hope that makes sense to you.

Yes, great idea Billy. I have received blanks with the tips of the blanks protruding through the plastic cap. Luckily none of them were broken.

Bobby; If you are looking for Ultra Light, better go with a "0" power Popping Blank, 2-6 lb line in a 7 footer is your best bet. Two piece may be hard to find.
