I wish I could dip it. I didn't intend to put anything on it . Now the client wants a glossy shine on it. Handle ,seat, and ferrules are fitted, lapped and epoxied on, ready for guides. Will go with the Marine Spar and put it on by hand. Thanks guys.

Building a Bamboo fly rod (8 ft 3 pc 5 wt). Customer wants a glossy finish on the whole rod. Will Threadmaster 1 be flexible enough to use ? I would use only one coat I think. I have never used this finish. I don't want to use PG or Varnish. Both dry too fast.

I have an AT machine with the upgraded chuck. I had the same problem even with a perfectly level rod. I cut pieces of rubberized cork (1/4" thick) from a sheet I got from Walmart and epoxied them to the plastic jaw covers. I then cut the rubberized cork on an angle ,front to back.. thickest part on the forward edge of the jaw,,thinner part to the rear. Then with a dremel and a little drum

I use it quite often and love the stuff. I have found that burlap does an excellent job of removing the mess.

Thanks Robert. I knew I had read that somewhere but couldn't remember where. That's exactly how I did it. Worked perfectly.

Am building 2 rods to give away to a local High School Bass Team. I remember seeing a Tutorial a year or two ago on proper rod care and handling. If anyone has a copy of that, please e-mail it to me ( jbhunt@logantele,com). I would like to give a copy of it with each rod.

I am building a MHX CCB865 for a client. He wanted an ECSM seat. The largest I have on hand in a size 16 is 14 mm and it is too small. Will a 15 mm ream out to fit this blank ? Where it sits , it measures 16.5 mm. I don't want to go to a size 17 if I can keep from it.

Sorry, misunderstood the question. Burnish as Bill said and finish. I never have a problem with it. Two coats of finish will make it hardly noticeable.

After the first coat of finish is dry, trim off the nubs with a single edge razor blade.

Can U-40 Cork Seal be rehydrated ? I don't use much and it appears to have almost dried up in the container.

Peter; I installed a Top with the braces welded on top of the tube, the rod came back with the reel full of tiny slivers of Mono. I will never again use a Top with the braces welded on top of the tube.

Tom, it wont harm the blank. I'm sure Chuck made a typo. It works on paint and varnish. Wont harm the fibers or resins of the blank.

Citra Strip is the best way to get it off. I never have to scrape the blank with a blade. Like Chuck said, a paper towel to clean it off. I also found Burlap works great also.

I build just about all of my Crankin rods on Popping blanks anymore. You can get them in various powers. My guys love them.

Use Tite-Bond III instead of Epoxy on regular cork. And also pay close attention to what John Powell said.

I bought a 4' section for mine. The base extrusions did not match up very well. The rod stands won't slide past the joint in the base. I am considering cutting it in half and mounting the chuck and motor on the half section.

Good reading. I was curious about other builders experiences. I am getting a lot of repairs in with guide rings popped out. It appears the majority are being stepped on while laying on the boat deck. That's all part of being a Bass tournament fisherman I guess. I don't mind fixing them if they don't mind breaking them.

I use a Rainshadow IP840 and throw an 1/8 oz jig and tube at least 90 ft. If it will do that , it should throw an 1/8 on Rooster tail just as well if not better. I think the IP series will load better than an SJ series. Of course this is just an old Crappie fisherman's opinion.

Frank; after you are satisfied with the cleaning job and the guide wraps are finished and dried , use Lemon Pledge sprayed on to a soft cloth, wipe down the rod and buff it with another soft clean cloth. She will look brand new. BTW , I cut up worn out "T" shirts into 6 or 8 inch squares just for polishing rods.
