So far, that Batson blank is the closest on i can find. also looked at an American Tackle Bushido LS76/20-40 . That's a close match.

Got the stats on the blank; GL2 L904 , Live Bait rod, 10-20 lb, 3/8 - 2 1/4 , mod fast, med hvy. Bob McCamey would be a good suspect. I will see if I can reach out to him.

Spencer , I am pretty sure it is an L904. It's not a Popping blank I don't think. I haven't seen the rod yet,, he is supposed to bring it to me, H e uses it for a Carolina rig. I think he said it was rated up to 1 ounce. and he said it was moderate fast.

I made a tool to get the guides TDC. Cut the reel foot off an old Zebco reel, it was plastic. Epoxyed a small string level on top of it. the level sat at right angle to the rod. Mount it in the reel seat and get it level. Shut one eye, look straight down on top of the first guide getting it centered on top, then wrap it. Do this on every guide you wrap, leveling the rod before each wrap. When fin

Very sorry to hear about Bills passing. He was a good friend. I knew him for many years . We shared some great stories about metallurgy and such in the Fossil Power Industry. And we shared some great stories about Rod Building. He was very instrumental in getting the Micro Guides in production, along with Steve Gardner and some others I didn't know. He was a wealth of knowledge, full of informati

Darrel ; I posted some photos some years ago of a rod I built for my brother who could not bend his wrist. We put a reel on it and took some photos with it in his hand. The handle was called a Cobra Handle. Do a search in the Photo Section under my name. See if you can use this type of handle along with a Spiral Wrap maybe.

I have also sharpened the end of a rifle case and punched a slug out of a piece of EVA. A 25-06 case worked perfectly on the last 2 piece fly rod I built that did not have a plug in it. Scraping the inside edge of the case mouth with a pocket knife will sharpen it keen as a briar.

I use a piece of rubber "O" ring material. You can get it in any size you want and it's cheap. if it doesn't fit,,,make it fit. I would never glue in something that won't give a little. Just like Phil said.

I have tried everything mentioned except the cosmetic pads. The best applicator I have found is a leg cut off a pair of my wife's pantyhose, only need a small piece wadded up. She still can't figure out what she did that new pair she bought.

If you are talking about a Bass Pitching blank, Ron Schneider has the Batson Rainshadow on sale. That particular blank has been discontinued. Good price on it.

No experience with them yet. I do know they have changed the numbering system and they don't have any finish.

I have been shaking, bending, wiggling a Rainshadow HS962 Med, Extra Fast, 1/4 -5/8 oz, , 12 - 20 lb blank and wondering if anyone has considered building or has built this as a Frog Rod. I know a Back Bouncing blank such as a Castaway BB1 makes a great Frog rod. Was wondering about this Hot Shot blank and maybe trimming some softness out of the tip.

I have replaced all the guides on about a dozen Duckett rods. They paint the White and the Gray thread. They have either 11 or 13 size 3 guides on them , depending on the length of the rod. My clients hate the guide train setup. I will change the first 3 guides to a larger size just to get a smoother transition coming off the reel . I will also move the first guide from the tip back to 3 1/2 inch

Mark is spot on ! They are both considered Austenitic type Stainless (18 % Chrome and 8% Nickel). Both are non-magnetic and non corrosive. Only a slight amount of Ferrite (.08% Iron). Although the 316 has a slightly higher content of Cr and Ni than does 304. It also has 2.0 - 3.0 % Molybdenum which makes it even more corrosive resistant than 304 type SS. So, like Mark said, I would use type 304

I was considering The MHX as I have built on a few of the 844's but I didn't have one in my stash to compare. I do have the G Loomis in my shop. Thanks Bob and Robert. MHX it is.

A client has a G Loomis MBR 844C, 7 ft Hvy,Fast Action, 12- 20 lb, 1/4-1 oz rod. He wants me to build one just like it . I need a suggestion on a blank, reasonably priced, that would be very similar. Maybe in a Batson or MHX.

I agree with Don and Spencer. I am building one now on the Batson SB822.5. I have built a bunch of DS rods on this blank and they are outstanding.

Hi Steve; Building conventional, guides on top. I need tops with the brace welded opposite the eyelet. I get rods in for repair with about an inch or so of the tip broken off. I replaced one recently, that I had installed, and it had the braces welded on top. Well it was shaving Floro so bad the reel was full of dust from the line. He had to replace the line.

Who sells a Micro Top size 4.5-7 or 5-7 ( for a casting rod ) with the braces welded on the bottom of the tube. I have had to replace a couple tops because the brace was shaving line where it was brazed to the top of the tube.

I like Victor"s choice and the REV comes in different lengths. I just built a 7' 2" for a friend throwing 1/16 oz jigs for Crappie. It is a fine blank.

Joe; for blank storage, I bought 6" PVC hanger brackets from Lowes. They mount on the wall with screws. I used 3 and spaced them to get even support on the blanks. I put 3 more directly above them so now I have 2 areas to hold blanks. One rack will hold about 20 or 30 blanks. These brackets are plastic and are used for supporting 6" PVC, horizontally along a wall. They work great for m

Eric, everything I've got is ( I think) moisture curing, dries extremely fast. I got a bottle of Threadmaster Rod Varnish and it dried extremely fast on a test run so it must be moisture curing also. I am on my way to get some good urethane and put it on with my fingers just like I used to do gun stocks with Tru Oil.

I am not surprised. Every old rod I ever saw had been dipped after it was completed. Varnish still on the guides. Thanks Ken. I have cleaned and set up a 36" piece of 1/2 inch PVC. I will give it a shot.

After thinking about this a bit a could probably still dip the rod. It is a 3 piece with extra tip. I could seal up the good Nickel Silver ferrules with electrical tape on the first 2 sections. No Guides or tops on the tip sections, no thread any where. What do you think Ken ?
