Have you tried the threadmaster lite? It's pretty easy to put it on super thin.

Do a test wrap on some scrap first. I have some and it doesn't want to harden for me. Wish it would because it is very easy to use. Can you post your experience with it when you try it? If it works for you can you post the temp and humidity and such?

I keep seeing videos of people that made a spiral wrap on their rods. Why do they use like 6 guides real close to each other to move the line 180?

I have never seen that Herb. Even though I do mine in 78 degrees no matter the time of year, I'm going to try that just to see it.

HAHA! We have 3 people to help, and I weigh in at 320+lbs. If it gets too crazy we will definitely have knives at the ready though. We get a lot of hammers and bulls, but the great whites usually are only here during the winter. Hoping for some 10ft or so hammers. I don't think I would be so comfortable with a 15ft white shark though, hahaha!

Thanks guys! That is what I'll do. I'll cut it down to fit the butt, and the Avet T-RX 80w is on the way for it. Also, will just be a fighting belt from the beach.

I have the blank, the butt i havent ordered yet. The blank i measured with caliper but the butt im just going on the size the sites say the ID is. About 3-4inches up it turns into 1.18 on the blank. Is it safe to trim it? The reason i ask is that it will be used on very large sharks.

I'm building a gator blank tuna 72 rod, but im having trouble finding a big enough butt to fit it. The diameter of the very end of the rod is 1.2155" OD, and the biggest ID unibutt I can find is 1.18". It is an unlimited class rod, and I'm not sure if I would have to sand it to fit? Anyone have any suggestions to make something work? Thanks!

Very well said. To all the sponsors that do pay here, the left side of this forum is where I have always looked for reliable places to shop. I'm surely not the only one to do that either so it's well worth the $32 a month.

So I'm looking for a blank and I thought I found the one but it isn't quite right. I have been looking at the rainshadow judge blank and I like it but need it in a heavy not light.
JDGLB810L-CG Clear Gloss 8'10" 1 15-30lb. 3/4-3oz. 0.760 7.0 Fast Light 6.4oz. Saltwater Flyline (Freeline) Anchovie
That is the blank. I would like to have something in that size (as close to 9' as possible

Normal fishing conditions will be out of the question with this rod. On the beach I guess it won't take such a beating, but on the bridges when we lock the drag is another story. It will be hitting the railing (concrete and metal) and anything else to rip the big girls up. If you give them an inch they will take a mile.

Weight is no problem as the rod weighs a ton already, haha! Time is no problem either not in a hurry. Would A size thread under wrap be ok or should I use the D for that too? Thanks for the quick answer, Tom.

I am building an unlimited class 6' gator glass for shark fishing. I'll do an under wrap, but should I also double over wrap the guides? I'll be using size D thread for the over wraps. Will be hopefully catching very large sharks with it from the beach. Probably some big grouper from the bridges too. Thanks!

I use threadmaster lite, but i have used flex coat and ls supreme and have gotten good results. What i do is put every coat on very thin even if it takes me 10 coats(usually takes 3), but i dont get leveling issues like that. Since i put on so thin there isnt much to level anyway. I use a 3rpm motor to apply and dry(it was free from microwave). I apply a lot at first and let it soak for like 30 s

If they say they can get it for nothing some where else they will always want cheap. It's like a ferrari vs a honda they will both get you from A to B, but thats not why you pay 200k more.

How about a a casting reel that doesnt have a level wind (one that is actually casted)? Would it be the same or differ from reels that have a level wind?

58. Re: dryer motor
I use a microwave motor for my dryer. I pulled the motor and the plastic part that the plate sits on.
This one is mine. It looks like crap, but works great.

Awesome, thanks! I figured rollers might be a problem in the sand. Could you tell me how you arrived at using a 25 for the guide closest to the reel?

Yeah I figured that and now going with a 6' unlimited blank instead. It seems to be easier to find stuff that fits the 6' blank too. Thanks, I appreciate the help very much.
