Duh, forgot about those when I posted! I have wrapped one and it was great. Nice finish, great dark blue color.

Bod does have dark blue blanks. I bought a 4 piece 9' 6wt from him and off the top of my head I thought it was a H&H blank but I'm not positive. Regardless, he has or had them, give him a call.

I would reccomend at least using a straight flouro or a braid with a flouro top shot if you have any problems on the hookset sticking. I had problems setting the hook w/ a 5wt and straight mono on small bass because of the combination of rod flex and line stretch. I switched to Stren Super Braid 10# test (3# diameter) and a 10 foot leader of flourocarbon. The hooksets became unbelievably solid

Okay, it's getting worse .... My wife is questioning my ManHood because while driving around town this weekend I about came unglued everytime we passed a hobby shop, craft store, fabric store (for making rod socks), etc. Have you ever seen a grown man pout because his wife wouldn't let him go into a JoAnn's Fabric store? I should be shot.

Dang Putter has me hooked! I finally broke down and made my first test on marblizing last night. I made four attempts on the same scrap section and needless to say, two of them looked horrible. However, the other two turned out pretty cool for a first try so now I'm no doubt going to try some more.
I can't believe I waited so long to give this a shot. I think I have read just about every p

I'd start with a 5wt as it's useful across the board and pretty standard when it comes time to ask for help. The best way to learn is to just do it and see what happens. Your areas for improvement will be obvious and you can attack those one at a time by reading old posts on this board, reading the books available, watching DVD's, and finaly by asking specific questions here that you can't seem

that's what you get for trying to marbleize your light fixture while it's installed on the ceiling! Hey, if you marbleized your arms that would probably be like SPF 3000, no more sunburns!

Go figure! they are made by American Tackle!!! I know I see them everytime I open a Mudhole catalog but I thought for sure I had seen them on the AMTAK site.... sorry bout that.
If you don't have a mudhole catalog request one! Many of the sponsors carry the AMTAK line though like Neils and Janns to name two but shop around, they are all great to work with.

During the warmer months I work in my garage because I have a nice 3 foot by 12 foot rodbuilding table to spread out on. I can spill stuff and the wife doesn't care which is a bonus! I never did a scientific evaluation on this, but it did seem to take my epoxy quite a bit longer to cure in my garage. I did not have a "constant" temperature for one, and then there was the humidity fac

Careful with the Halogens. I used to use a twim 500 watt unit over my bench to aid drying and it seemed to cause some yellowing of the epoxy. This was with flexcoat high build. I didn't understand why this happened but someone told me that the Halogens actually give off a UV light. The person sent me an article on it but I can't seem to find it. I switched to the AMTAK line of finish and dit

I made a spinning rod out of a 9 foot Hook and Hackle 4 piece 6wt that works great. My customer uses it for both bass and trout w/ 6# test line. The extra length helps in throwing small spinners a little further and playing a 4 or 5 pound fish is a blast.

Hey Putter don't rain on my parade!
I just remembered how reluctant I was to try out the rod bond until I had my little "Oh Crap" moment with that EVA grip. I didn't want to "waste" money on the unknown and then of course there was always the fact I didn't want to admit I'd blown way more money buying enough $3 Devcon kits to have bought a 5 gallon bucket of each RodBond g

The only problem I ever had with the Devcon type 5 minute epoxy was when I heated an EVA grip prior to installation. What I learned the hard way (because I didn't do my homework on this board first!) was that the heated grip accelerated the curing of the 5 minute epoxy. I gave up on trying to get the butt section all the way down about a 1/2 inch from the end and had to trim it w/ my dremmel.

I too did my hand inscriptions from butt to tip until I started ordering decals. Now I like the way it looks when I can read it while it's in my hand. Also, all of my fish decals used to swim "off" the rod until I read someones opinion on here that they liked the idea of the fish swimming up the rod or towards them. Dang Superstitions!!!

I'm just a rookie but I do not coat my underwraps with anything. I didn't know any better at first and I was just anxious to get the rod done so I wrapped the whole thing in one sitting and applied my first pass of epoxy that night. It wasn't until many rods later that I realized some people coat their underwraps to different degrees. I do not see anything wrong with coating underwraps but I

In talking w/ Joe Meehan this week of AMTAK he said they should be widely available by the end of the month. I have been waiting (not so patiently) since they were first advertised.
I asked Joe to post on the board as soon as they were in stock and he said would do so.

I agree with all the answers above but I have on more scenario for you. I float tube a lot and even a 7" butt can get in the way. If you have a customer that is going to use a rod for float tubing, I'd reccomend a 4" rear grip on a spinning rod.

There are several in the photo gallery - one of them had a feather inlay in the split area that looked great. Try searching the gallery if you have the time.
