I get mixed reviews around here using 3's on heavy flipping rods with braid or Mono. I use 3's on my flip stik with 17lb mono...works great for me. The guys that flip with braid like it even more. I only have a few guys that have tried micros and dont like them. I have spent ALOT of time looking at their setups to figure out why. The only thing I can come up with is that they run their reel

I do both...For super smooth do the Shrink Method. For the texture I do it like Richard. I use an epoxy from US Composites for mine...when I wet it out and use a gloved hand to remove the excess it leaves a distint texture...then I give it a spray with urethane for some gloss...works great.

The kind of build you are looking at is a big chunk of my builds. I spiral wrap all I can. I do notice a slight difference in casting distance, fighting fish (remember, smallies fight hard compared to largemouth). Overall I think it is a better way to build the rod...especially if your customer wants it. Now, I have a VERY good friend that just will not fish a spiraled micro rod. He gets co

34. Re: Heat shrink
Jon, thanks for the suggestions....what do you trim the edges of the shrink tubing with? I did one grip with it and had a heck of a time getting clean edges where I wanted them.....

Looks like it would make inletting a KDPS foregrip easy too...at least easier than on my lathe.

37. Re: Micro tops
Cheng,
Like Bill mentioned take a look at Acid rod. Also, keep in mind the line type and diameter you are using. I like to use the BMCAT 4's for everything up to 15lb Mono/Copoly/Flouro....anything larger stick with a size 6.

Matthew, I get that it was a joke...just gets old reading how everyone wants the show to be run.... I know, I know...don't read it.

Let's face it guys....Tom is running this thing essentially solo....regardless of where we all seem to think it should be held it needs to be near Tom......I've only been to one show, it was a great time....I can't imagine organizing something like that period....let alone if I was trying to organize far away from where I lived.......

I do a revolver style spiral so the line is basically centered on top to the first guide. I spiral to the right, but strip line with my left hand when I flip.....doesnt really matter for my use which side I spiral to...I do it to the right to protect the transition guides like Steve had mentioned.

Well...I've had two break in the last season...but...it was abuse. The first was an XSB843...I tried flipping a fish into the boat that I shouldnt have and I high-sticked it....The other was an XSB783....guy in my club decided that it was a perfect 3/4 oz. rattle trap rod....blank took one whack from a rattle trap and broke.....not really Batsons fault.

Wow....a lot of reading about a simple task. I'm with Billy and the Syringe folks...it is simply the best and easiest way to measure small quantities of a liquid type product. You can very easily draw and measure 1/2...even 1/10 cc of finish if you wanted to....We draw up and administer quite a few drugs on the ambulance all with syringes.....if it works for life saving medication...it will defi

Steve,
Good memory, I posed on my icing experience two winters ago. I've noticed no real icing problems over the last two winters. Most of the time the ice starts forming in the line ahead of the guide, since the guide is so small it doesnt tend to get into the ring....on my next cast the ice is thrown loose. Every now and again a ring will ice up..no different than the 6's. I havent speci

You want both portions to fit snug like any other seat. As mentioned earlier the Castaway seat is nice because it needs no arbor. If you split say an ECSM you will want to install a foam arbor into the threaded portion, then ream it to fit the blank..both work fine....

I think the thing that comes into play that most people ignore is brand. We are all familiar with good old Trilene XL and XT...both Mono....DRASTICALLY different charictaristics....the XL is preferred on spinning reels, the XT for heavier line applications with baitcasters. Brand and model is even MORE important with Flouro....there are so many variations out there that you really need to setu

I fish flouro on my shaky and dropshot rods. My setup is 16, 8, 5, 3's to the tip. The placement varies...I start with Tom's 27x method and then attach the reel and test cast until I get results I am satisfied with....I'm using 8lb. McCoy flourocarbon this season...I was using 8lb. XPS last season.

If you run a business you can deduct the shipping expenses as a cost of doing business. If your in it for a hobby just buy everything you need at once....a hobbyist shouldnt need a random single parts for a "customer".....customers are for those that pay taxes.

Roger, I do about the same as use...I just consider them a supply at tax time...
When I do occasionally use a nice brush I use the U40 cleaner as well with a water rinse at the end.

Sounds like Bill is being pretty generous....Like CCS or not that many measurements is a significant investment in time and money.....I would think most serious builders would pay decent $$ for a database like that...

I used Rodbond on one to see if it would work...still going after a few seasons...I still just replace them though...chances are the frame is bent if the ring popped.

I'm with you guys on the XMB843....though my personal fav is the XSB843...I like the slightly softer tip of the S version for smaller plastics...built casting style. Havent thrown those particular Rogue models, but the ones that I have are very nice.

Great advise about guide sizing above. The most important thing I have found with spinning setups is a lot of test casting with the actual reel, line and lure you are intending to throw. No matter how many micro spinning rods I setup I am always a bit off with my shop setup....
I typically use 3000 size reels with 8lb Flourocarbon. Most of my setups have been 16,8,5,3's to the tip. The B
