Ryan, To echo what Chris is saying the guides will be fine for the actual FISHING use. It sounds to me that Duane is more concerned with the abuse the rod and guides will take than any effects during fishing. If that is the case it is a personal decision based on how you or your customer is likely to treat the equipment. I am personally very hard on my rods....between my guide eating rod tub

Ok, in general I would say that typically a Spinjig blank is a bit faster than one listed as spinning...But..you really need to see them both side by side to be sure. Each manufacturer labels these things to their own whims.

Joe, Which blanks specifically and what are you looking to do with it?

Well...each manufacturer has different idea's...some companies even use the same blanks in each series. Without knowing which line you are looking at in general I would say that the Spin Jig blanks are generally similar to Mag Bass blanks...typically a fast action w/ light tip and stout backbone....again...without knowing a brand it's hard to compare.

I stock mainly fuji hardloy and alconite, and batson H ring for repairs. It seems that the vast majority of rods that come in my shop have those on them....I try to match the guide brand as close as possible.

The beautiful metal pieces that Mike Blume posted on the photo page got me thinking about how nice it would be to turn my own winding checks, etc. I have a nice wood lathe....don't really have the room or $$ for a metal lathe. Does anyone else turn on a wood lathe? I am looking to turn aluminum. Any tips on tools, etc? Thanks

Some good thoughts out there.....thanks for the reply's. I noticed that I missed my point a bit though. My theory is more towards the way a specfic brand blank transmits vibration. I think we can all agree that a Loomis GLX and SCV series blank are very high end. Personally, I fish a lot of St. Croix products....I am used to how they feel. I believe that I feel more with an SCV that with a G

I would guess an oversleeve for the break near the tip and possibly an internal sleeve for the lower break...just have to read the article and play with it.

Where are the breaks. You could just repair the blank. The article in the library is an excellent reference....might be fun to do also.

Alex Z and I have been emailing back and forth comparing some new blanks to the blanks that we typically recommend. Alex and I have similar build philosophies but differ in regards to brand etc. when it comes to blanks. So....the topic of sensitivity came up. I mentioned to him that some of my club members and myself find a VERY popular affordable series of blanks to feel completely dead in re

I have one that doubles as a frog/C-rig rod. It is an excellent frog rod and a pretty decent C-rig rod. There are probably better out there specifically for C-rig, but it is VERY capable of pulling double duty.

Torin, I told myself I was going to stay out of it but I can't resist. What are the plethora of techniques that do not involve distance, and how are you setting up your guides for these techniques? I saw you mention the dropshot....how are you setting up your guides for this?

Being a dumb fireman I would imagine the biggest benefit is the weight reduction. In my mind taking more weight off of the tip section of the rod means that more of the energy of the cast is going into throwing the lure and not overcoming the weight of the guides/finsih/thread. They are not an absolute fix for all rods...but when used properly they are a distinct improvement. Your best b

My typical setup on my CB70MH is 10lb. McCoy on a 5.1 retreive Curado 200BSF. I throw 200 series bandits on with no problem. I also throw some of the lighter Bagleys Killer B's and old Rapala Fat Raps. A similar production blank would be the St. Croix Avid CB70MHM. The CB70M will probably work, I just think it is too light for anything other than the smallest crankbaits.

In the rainshadow line I think you would be better with the CB70MH. None of the baits you mentioned are very light weight so you don't really need the lower power of the CB70M. I use the CB70MH for the same baits you are talking about, it works great. Outside of the Rainshadow line I would recommend the Seeker BS706S glass. I'm sure you will get quite a few other suggestions. There are

149. Re: ERN
OK, so why is it not a direct conversion of cents to ERN? What was the goal of changing 51 cents to 6.49? I guess my point is that if CCS is going to be adopted by a broad range of builders/manufacturers their should be a clearly defind method for converting cents to ERN. I get what you are saying....I can measure them anyway I want and compare against my own other measurements....but, un

150. Re: ERN
Tom, Wouldnt you say that 'doing your own thing' in regards to how we are determining ERN would undermine the efforts to effectively share CCS data? I think if the ultimate goal is to allow us to compare blanks to others in ALL ranges of ERN we need a clearly defined method for determining ERN at all ranges of the spectrum. Bill, I know I need to re-read the article, I am sure you mentio
