Hi Joe, The current conversion rate is 1.22 USD to 1 GBP. Not all that long ago it was 1.7 to 1. In regards to VAT, some UK companies (not sure if all) do not charge it on exports. I have no familiarity with the UK Hooks movable reel seat. The most approved is the style with collar nuts at each end of the pipe. However, both collar nuts need to be loosened in order to move the reel sea

"There are people who win distance casting championships in categories for different types and classes of rods." I am sure classifications vary by country. World competitions tend to be more standardized (Depending on where they are held). Fly rod distance tournaments have classes very different from the typical US & UK competitions having distances cast over 800 feet. Amer

Hi Joe, While most (not all) tournament long distance casters use a low reel position for casting, it is my understanding that after the cast, the reel will either be moved to the high position or an extension will be plugged into the bottom of the handle. The C3 LD probably has a parallel handle and will allow for the use of a sliding reel seat. Use of a full length, continuous section of heat

Hi Glen, Does your thread lay down like gudebrod? Kind of. The thread diameters will be the same or very close. Both Gudebrod and Makoi have a nylon base. Makoi has more turns per inch. If the Makoi thread is wrapped around a tight turn, the color underneath will not show through as much as Gudebrod. And is that all the colors you have or will you have more? There are a couple of color

Glenn, Gudebrod size D at .012 " is nylon NCP thread - commonly referred to as NCP. Gudebrod size D at .0104 " is nylon not treated - commonly referred to as Nylon. While Gudebrod D NCP is thicker than D Nylon, D Nylon is stronger than D NCP. Sizes of A, B, C, D, E, F are government specifications. These standards are not strictly adhered to for rod wrapping. Tip into butt ferrules can be found on the more expensive blanks made in the UK. Century blanks (TTR) can sell for $800 and they have tip into butt fittings. These blanks have set distance casting records. The best example would be a 70/30 plugging rod where the reel seat fits around the female section to enhance the blanks power. Anything can be made "el-cheapo" or priceless. ;)

Mike, First, when you are really going for distance, you may find it difficult to keep the bait on the hook. The answer is kind of moot and depends mostly on the skill, type of cast, and power of the fisherman. When doing an off the ground cast, a stiff moderate action seems to work best. The arc of travel is relatively small and the sinker accelerates rapidly. With a pendulum cast, t

These folks may be ably to answer your questions. They are in Oklahoma. In regards to not throwing off the bait, the cast should be made using a big rotation, consistent speed build up throughout the cast, and no pull/punch at the end before release.

First, thanks to everyone for the positive comments about Makoi thread. They are greatly appreciated. “It's funny to hear people pit Prowrap against Makio without realizing that they're the same thread with different labels on them” Well, there is a good chance we buy from the same large manufacturer. However, the specifications are not the same. We believe we properly comply with federal r

The Lamiglas GSB series tends to have a moderate action. There may be two models of interest. GSB 180 2MH 15' Lure 5-7 ounces GSB 180 2M more moderate action and less power than the 2MH These models may have been discontinued since they served a niche market. Sometimes Lamiglas has older models available but does not advertise them. You may want to call Lamiglas and ask.

Hi Kerry, For starters, an Omoto 7000 is almost identical to an ABU 7000. Is it a level wind reel? I measured the height of a filled Omoto 7000 and the line level at the top is about 1.75 inches above the blank. That, along with the position of the first running guide should give you an approximate position for the stripper. The old standard for the size of the stripper for a surf rod w

YOU REALLY MEANT IT! ;) I understand and am guilty of not mentioning country of origin on my thread web pages. My thread labels are in compliance and clearly state "Made In China". The reel pages do copy the manufactures pages by saying "Proudly Made In Taiwan".

Bill, I'm sure I will not be using the correct terms. Hopefully the following will make some sense. Manufacturers have different names for the same thing. It regards how the ring is attached to the frame. The ring may be pressed into the metal groove. Epoxied into it. Or a combination of both. For surf rods, on the cast, when the shockleader knot strikes the ring, we would want the ring to be

Well, I do not use Madeira, but it is my understanding that CP needs to be applied before the epoxy. Am I wrong? Will you be exposing the red Madeira between the guide feet and will it be used as trim bands? Some epoxy sets harder and may yellow faster than others. With red and black, you should not have a lot of concern with the epoxy yellowing.

You will need to contact Lamiglas. The Chinese do build a lot of long 3 piece rods. Perhaps it was something Lamiglas imported for a special order.

Although I worked with Lamiglas on developing 14' and 15' 2 piece GSB blanks, I have never been involved with any 2 or 3 piece 16' blanks.
