121. Re: Lathe Plans?
You could use one of the self-centering chucks from Taig Tools and have a 3/4 inch threaded rod turned down on one end to fit in your drill.

I use a 20" butt for a spinning rod and a 26" butt for a conventional rod.

I have painted lots of seats on saltwater rods black with several coats of spar urethane as a top-coat. They have held up very well...a few are over ten years old and still look good.

All the Fuji graphite seats that I have used, including the NPS are the gray you described. I always sand off any casting marks, fix any imperfections and paint them black with a few coats of a gloss spar urethane as a top coat. I have some that are 10 + years old and still look good.

All my NPS seats came from Custom Tackle Supply...they have a lot of stuff that is not on their web site...give Bob a call or e-mail him...if he doesn't have it, he will try to get it for you...nice folks to deal with.

For me, the 1/2 rules does apply to braid. My reason is the braided line has no memory and it is extremely limp without any tension on it, thus making it harder to control. I have a couple of 9 1/2 ft. Breakaways with a size 15 stripper. You can always complete your rod except for that one guide. Test cast it with a few different sizes taped on until you find the one that suits you best.

If braided line is all that will ever be used on your Lami, you can use smaller guides. I have found that keeping the braided line under control with the proper size of guides is the key to no tangles. Most braids are 75% smaller in diameter than the same strength of mono and I adjust the size of my guides accordingly.

I cut the angle of the tape before putting it on....one complete turn around the edge of the reel seat and the tape will meet itself...no further trimming required. You can fill in the gap between the end of the tape and the blank with epoxy, making a tapered angle for the thread to easily climb on. You might have a easier time cutting the tape in a perfect circle by putting a couple of wraps of

All you need to do is determine the size of the main shaft and the thread pitch. The Taig self-centering mini-chucks are 3/4 x 16. There are many thread adapters available if you need one or a machine shop can easily make one for you.

Try the 30 minute epoxy again...put masking tape on the end you start on and no epoxy on the first inch of the blank so the cork will stay put...then epoxy the rest of the blank and wrap with your cork...leave a few extra inches when you cut it off the roll. When you get the tape pretty snug, secure the loose end with masking tape again. With the epoxy as a lube, you can start twisting the tape

I do not recall anyone selling reels of any type. I do remember that there was no tippet material or sinking tips for sale by any of the vendors....lots to look at but VERY little for sale....hopefully it will be different this year.

Tica rods are a decent value...blanks are above average for their price point...components (guides and reel seats) are junk.

149. Re: Brush clean-up
I have quit cleaning brushes...just buy cheap ones and toss them when done. I found the time involved in properly cleaning a brush, plus the cost of thinner or brush cleaner was not worth the trouble.
