I greatly appreciate the advice guys! It got me wondering though, since I am not going to be passing a knot through the guides ( the leaders are normally fairly short for the type of work that we do) would I be able to get away with a 2.0 mm micro for the runners? would the micro's offer any advantage?

Ok,
So I have stepped out of my normal panfish or bass rods and have picked up a couple of fly blanks for myself and my Mom. I have a Batson RX8XF865-4 and a St. Croix 42F905.2. I am looking for guide suggestions and possible spacing. I do realize that I will have to do a static test but am looking for a starting place. The blanks will be utilized for panfish and possibly trout. I've searc

I think I would like to try and make some birch bark handles. I need to know if I can use bark from seasoned logs or does the bark need to be "green"?
Thanks,
Tom

Bill,
quick suggestion for cleaning your threaded rods.... USE A DIE!!! much easier and safer than a hacksaw blade! There are many ways you can use it but I slip one end of the rod into the chuck of the old Makita and thread the die onto the rod. Give her a good spin while ensuring you have a secure grip on the die and wha-la you get a perfectly cleaned rod every time.

I do my wrapping after work and it seems that almost everynight I hear the evening news (11 o' clock edition) come on and I know it is time for bed... Amazing how fast 5 - 6 hours can pass!

I too have also had exceptional service from them as well. I was loading a rod into the truck and broke off the top 3.5 inches of an MHX SJ720. It was replaced free of charge!! Phenominal service..

1002. Re: split seats
Thanks guys, I greatly appreciate all the input. I typically palm the reel and have not had any discomfort as of yet. I don't use any rod holders (except for my hands) of any type and with the diameter of the blank being of decent size and with having slightly smaller hands I think I will give the Phenix a try.

1003. Re: split seats
Ok Roger, may I ask that you list said "disadvantages?" I understand they are uncomfortable on smaller daimeter blanks. This will be installed on a blank with a diamater of 13.0mm at the seat.
thanks,
Tom

1004. split seats
Good evening everyone,
I going to ask a question and I am hoping it doesn't start one of those "Ford, Chevy, Dodge" type of discussions. I am doing a rod for myself and I would like feedback from those of you who are using split seats.
I would like to know what are the strong suites (yes I am aware of the weight savings) of the different types. I am considering the Fuji SK2 type a

I know that I already put in my vote but with the hints, seems something along the lines of Atlanta would meet most of the criteria..

Steve,
The reason that I asked is because I have a large amount of Fish Hawk and have been completely happy with it. A while back I was told by an individual that in their opinion Fish Hawk is the best on the market... When this person speaks you should listen very intently to what they have to say. I cannot disclose who it is, however; I can say that I would recommend you give their metallic

1010. tour star grips
Any one have information regarding the weight of the Tour Star grips? I see on the website that they claim they are lighter than cork. Any input on their feel?
I may give them a try on one of the next builds.
Thanks,
Tom

What is the pricing going to be for the Nano's? I may have to beg for a bit of extra cash from the Mrs. especially if they are like the Batson's.

Evening Gents,
My daughter just received her acceptance letter to become a Tennessee Vol this evening. I would like to present her with a "Volunteer" rod for her to have and fish with this summer. What orange best matches the Tennessee colors?
Thanks,

Kyle,
I think you will find the SJ720 right on track for the jigs. It definately has the "stiffer" action that you are looking for. For the crankbaits. I would go the route of a 0 power popping rod.
