Roger, I'm looking at a rod wrapping lathe, and I'm trying to save a little money on it. I'm in Florida for 6 months and trying to set up another shop. I'm also looking for an electronic foot pedal, but I might have to go with a regular foot pedal. Thanks for any ideas or help you can give me.

Can anybody tell me where I can get a motor and foot pedal for a lathe for a good price? I'm setting up a new shop in Delray Beach, FL and don't want to spend a fortune. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Adam Maybe Mudholes Ajust a Butt will help you. Its a telescoping aluminum handle that fits inside or out side the butt section. It also comes in colors. There is a video on their web site explains how it works.

Tried to send Dave Teague an email in response to his post regarding the renzetti lathe. It came back twice as undeliverable. Dave, you need to check that your email address is correct. Sorry I had to go this way, but I had no other choice.

I mentioned this a few days ago, and Tom told me that they did an upgrade on it a few weeks ago. I thought it was my computer, but I have been trying for a few days now to upload a photo with no success.

Tom is right. I tried to sell some Holland thread, thinking I would not have any trouble. Didn't get a bite. I finally bartered with Doc for one of his jigs. My bargain didn't turn out to be such a great one for me. .I still have plenty left.

That is real Cool. It's nice to see that someone is thinking outside the box to make it easier and cheaper for someone who would like to try this craft.

Patrick I think by taking apart an old rod and putting it back together is a good learning curve, and you might be asked to do it one day.

Tom and Bill, I did read the article in the library and as soon as the three guides arrive, I'm going to do a static test. Michael, The yellow and red thread was toast 45 years ago. I do not build surf rods, believe it or not, I have 11 surf blanks in my stock. I'll be using a white eva foregrip, since I can't get a rubber one. Thank you all for your advice.

Tom, I measured the front of the reel spool and multiplied it by 27 and came up with 69 1/2" which left me with 43" I just thought that if I went over 7", I would be pushing it. Michael, This rod is practically the same as yours. It is 140" long and my butt guide is 25 1/2" from the center of the reel. The chocker guide is 69 1/2" from the center of the reel

I have an old Harnell surf rod that I am trying to bring back to life. The chocker guide is 43 1/2" from the tip. If I use six guides at 7" I will come up short, or can I just go to 7 1/4" which will bring me closer to what I want or should I just go to seven guides? The space between the butt guide and the next guide is 21". Is that too much space? I am using 3 guides: a

First, thanks for all the info. You guys are right, it does have some sort of core that I can't identify. I picked these rods up, along with about fourty others, from an old tackle shop on Long Island whose owner had died. These were mixed in. There were all sorts of components from the 40's and 50's and earlier.

Is it necessary to prep these larger guides? I build only in shore rods, so I'm not familiar with these larger guides. I'M also wondering how many of you prep your guides, as it's not a job many people like. Thanks.

Dennis, My original jig was made with a spool of thread attached to it, so when the thread broke, I was able to replace it fast. But, I knew there had to be a better way; that was the stainless steel. It lasts a long time. I still have the original wire on it and I cut a lot of eva. So I do not play mine either!

Take that same saw and add 32lb. stainless leader wire and you have a eva tool that will last long time.

If you are going to go the razor blade route, be very careful. There is something about a spinning mandrel and a razor blade that does not sound good. If you are going to be using thread, do not wrap the thread around your fingers for safety purposes.

I hear some rod makers say the best way to cut eva is with fishing line or razo blade and vice grips yes you will cut the eva but not safely. The best way to cut eva is with the Marchisella Eva cutting Jig. Cuts square and round eva cork.If you want more Info. Rodmaker Magazine volume 13 issue4 or e-mail me billsreelworld@
