To get a straight cut if you want to put different color rings in round eva, I recommend the eva cutting tool that was featured in Rodmaker Magazine, volume 13, issue 4. To glue the eva together, use DAP Contact Cement.

I picked up a few blanks and I need some info on them. The first is a St.Croix F-70XH-BK, the next is a Shakespeare Wonderod 12-0290B, and the next is a SWB7M. Any help would be appreciated.

Rich If it the same as the other 4oz spools, this is what I did I took an empty 100yd spool from Gudebrod and cut it in half and then I sanded down the drum to fit inside the 4oz spool and worked just fine Bill

Rob- I have about 4 different jigs. The idea is to cut the eva all the same size to fit the jigs. If you are using round eva, the outside diameter is not consistently the same, and can give you a problem, too. I have had no problems making checkerboard grips with any of my jigs. I have an eva cutting tool in Rodmaker that you can make if you want. -Bill

Larry, There is a eva cutting tool described in Rodmaker Magazine #13-4 called the Marchisella eva cutting tool that I developed that you can easily make. It is safe, accurate and easy to use. This tool is set up to be used on a Renzetti lathe, but can be adapted to any lathe. If you have any questions, please contact me.

In response to Ferdi that he would like to see some photos of the tool, I will post them in the 'photos' section. If there are any questions, I'll be glad to answer them. Email me at billsreelworld@aol.com.

I would say that if you want a more accurate cut and reduce the danger of using thread to cut eva, try to make the tool that was featured in the last issue of Rodmaker. It also cuts cork and trims blanks.

Ken, Are you just trying to cut cork accurately and consistently? If so, I have developed a tool to cut EVA which can be adapted to cut cork. It is featured in Rodmaker, the upcoming issue. Bill

Ihave bpth and I think both are great. They both do basically the same thing, each in a little different way. The results are basically the same.

Tom, Should I be concerned that I haven't received my RodMaker yet, or should I wait a few more weeks before I report it missing in action? Sorry to bother you but I think I'm losing it. lol Bill Marchisella

Herman, To do this spiral you will need a jig. The grip in the picture is 272 pieces cut and glued together. By the way, I now hate contact cement. lol Bill Marchisella

260. Fly rods
While at the reception at the 2009 show, I won a $200 gift certificate from Batson. I am a salt water builder, so I decided to do something different and build a 4 piece 8 weight fly rod. I spined all 4 pieces of the rod to get a starting point. Now I have two questions: When doing ferols, do you put alignment lines on both the male and female parts to keep the guides straight? Also, what

Tom, Glad the reception is on a Friday. Maybe this year I'll be able to sample some of the barbeque I've heard so much about. Last year, I was told these placs are not open on Sunday. Hopefully somebody can advise me as to a couple of good restaurants. Looking forward to the show. Bill Marchisella

To all rodbuilders I recieved a full @#$%& registration from Owen & Sandy as second prize in the contest. Since I already have it, they were gracious enough to let me give it away. The 41st person who requests it by emailing me with their name and email address is the winner. Good luck! Bill Marchisella billsreelworl&

Mike I take that statment back. If you can cut cork with stainless leader wire like Chris Davis said, then my tool can cut cork also. It will cut it safer because you are not holding it in your hands Bill Marchisella
