151. Re: Rod Lathe Survey
Sorry, I should have been more specific. I'm interested in the rod lathe, such as PacBay, Alps, Renzetti, etc., etc. If I get enough rod builders to reply, I can figure out the top 3 or 4 and then I'll be able to adapt my tools to them. Thanks again.

153. Re: Cork Jigs
Chad
There is not too much out on the market these days, and I'm not aware of anyone making their own. The Mudhole cork cutting jigs are basically what is out there. I use jigs that are similar to Mudholes to make my grips, and I am able to make all kinds of designs. What do you mean different, in what way? There is only so much you can do with a jig.

I would not think that anybody who wants a rod built is interested in who you bought your inventory from or their skills. They would be more interested in your skills and what you will do to build their rod. Apparently there is a lot more to making custom rods and selling them. But my first aim would be to get my name out there and show potential customers my skills. The money will come

Many years ago, there was a advertisement in a fishing magazine and it said that the owner of a bait shop had passed away and the son was selling the inventory. Well I went to this sale and went into a buying frenzy;.I bought stuff I could use and stuff I couldn't use because the price was too good to pass by. I bought 40 4oz spools of Holland thread and 40 plus rods, and other thing

159. Re: New Issue
Billy, you are right.. I wrote this article to show how I make my grips .and how easy it really is. If you can glue a model plane or car together you should have no problem making my grips. I also want to thank Tom again for printing the article in the Rodmaker Magazine.

Cutting 1" or 2" off a 10" grip is no problem with size D thread, For Safety reason I would hold the thread between my fingers and not wrap the thread around them,

163. Re: Cutting EVA
The best way to cut EVA is with a Marchisella EVA Cutting Tool both accurate and safe. To make this tool the instructions are in Rodmaker Magazine Volume 13 Issue 4. As for cutting angles in EVA I would use a miter box with a Hobby saw.

I have a couple of Diawa's that are 20-40 and a 15-30 from 10 years or more back. Good idea but dirt would get caught in the hole. If you had a lot of action and the line broke, it was very frustrating to re-rig. The ring inside the tip would crack, and cut the line. So I cut off the tunnel where the line went through and made it a revolving rod. Works good now.

165. 2017 show.
Tom, did the show happen this year? I've been looking for some photos, and I know you take a few hundred of them. When can I expect to see them in the photo section? Also, does anybody else have photos of the show they wish to share? Thanks.

I just have to cut 24" round eva. I have one home in New York(in Florida now), I think I got it from Andy Dear many years ago. I thought someone might know where I could order it. Thanks for the help.

Roger, that's exactly what I do; however, for some unknown reason, this time I didn't. My mistake.

I plan on keeping the rods as I put too much work into them already, so I wouldn't even think of exchanging them. It's my own fault for not checking them when I got them. I guess I'll have to address it with the manufacturer when I order again. Thanks for the input.

The blanks are made of S glass and carbon. The curve starts about 1/3 down the bland from the tip. It is a well known blank and not cheap. the curve is about 1/2". Just wanted to get an opinion as to what is acceptable and what is not acceptable. Should I mention to the manufacturer that the blanks were not straight or is the norm whatever you get, you get? I never ran across this problem b

How crooked of a blank is acceptable. I recently bought some blanks, and didn't bother to check for straightness. Now halfway through the build, I'm finding that they are all crooked. I have bought less expensive rods and they were much straighter. I just want to get some input as to what is acceptable and should I complain to the manufacturer?

Can anyone tell me why a company outside the United States can charge New York City sales tax? When I buy from Mud Hole, I am not charged tax.

I have found that by using pie cutting jig from Mud Hole and the Marchisella eva and cork cutting tool which was featured in Rodmaker magazine is the easiest way for me to make a checkered grip. You can look at my photos to see some examples.

When I build a rod and it functions the way it is supposed to and the person is happy and catches a lot of fish with it, that's all the 'certification' I need.

I don't want anybody to think that I am bad-mouthing Renzetti, but I own both the old and the new. The new one works fine except for a couple of things. The raised bed vibrates at high speed, but I think that can be fixed by placing rubber under the metal blocks. The other problem I see is that the thread carriage doesn't just come off; you have to take it apart a little bit. One other minor thi

179. Winn Grips
I just bought a few sets of Winn grips - 2 salt water and 1 light spinner. I was wondering if anyone has cut these grips, and if so, with what. The reason why I ask is because for salt water rods I use a forward grip, and would like them to match. So, I'm thinking of buying another one and cutting it to match the rear grip. I would like to have some input before I ruin a $20 grip. By the way, t
