Thx. I may take you up on that.

I think you did the CCS work at Pacbay and those measurements were one of the reasons I started buying them and continue to use them. Now that you're at Batson Co., I wonder if we can expect to see any numbers on the Batson family of blanks? It would open up a lot of possibilities for me and maybe others as well.

I don't remember the name of it but assume it's the same product now as it was a year ago. I bought some and tried it on a few repairs. Good product but much thinner than epoxy. You would need a half dozen coats or more to get the same depth as a usual coat of FC. Dried enough for another coat in about thirty minutes. Final product was clear and tough but not as hard as something like Permagloss.

Apple may have iCloud but their system doesn't shut down your programs while a company sales pitch takes over your screen. This would be like buying a Samsung TV set and having your TV programs interrupted mid way by built in sales pitches from Samsung. Not advertisements from the cable or TV people, but from inside the TV set!!! What gets me is that they wouldn't understand that anybody buying t

I shut the hatchgate on a Chevy Blazer down on a batch and broke three. But I cannot recall ever having broken one fishing other than maybe back when I was a kid fishing store bought rods. My customers have not broken too many but I will say that bass fishermen seem to be harder on rods than any other clientele I have built for. But still not too very bad.

Not sure why the modulus of the blank would make any difference.

The only reason I can think of that some might be doing this is to allow tangles to get knocked out along the way instead of just jamming at the butt guide. I think Lefty Kreh suggested this many years ago. With most heavier lines between stiffer these days I don't see that it's really needed anymore if it ever was in the first place. I assume that the #5's are snakes as that would be very small

Testing can get expensive especially when you realize that there are only about three or four actual epoxy finishes out there and everything else is just repackaged and relabeled from one of those three or four. Trondak, Flex Coat, BD Classic Coat, Envirotex. Take your pick.

I have used the old PacBay single foot loop fly rod guides as runners on UL spinning rods. They work fine and the Recoils will too. Only reason I stopped was because the Minimas have the full ring with very little extra weight.

If you plan to use it on EVA be advised that it's crap. It won't hold sections together like the liquid type from the glass jar.

I have had good success with Krylon Fusion. It's supposed to be good on plastic and has some ability to flex. But to be honest I can't be sure that any good quality enamel wouldn't be just as good. I just know this has worked pretty well for me.

Not sure. Will have to plug in some numbers on my next rod project and see how they compare.

I like the Suffix product. Pound test is up to you. Lots of good braided lines out there. Only problem you may have is finding a really light pound test in braid. The stuff is STRONG.

Accepting the fact that the 27X system is a great all around NGC system and works very very well with just about any reel or line size and type, even Tom has said that if you know that the line you will be using is very light or supple you can probably pull the choker guide back closer to the reel. I have been doing some testing over the last year with trial and error for NGC rods built to be fis

All Johnny's stuff is real good for the money and fairly priced. I got a spey rod blank from him at the expo a few years back, plus an inexpensive fly reel and they're easily as good as other things I've gotten elsewhere for a lot more money.

Uh, he usually mentions that it takes a few weeks or until the end of the month or something. It's never left open as to any idea that everybody will get it in a week. Never mind we were typing at the same time. But the general delivery date is usually in there as you can see.

I don't understand some people's thinking or idea of how best to get things done. Once in several years I have had a magazine arrive badly molested. Wet, torn pages. Unreadable. I E-mailed Tom and asked for another and even offered to pay for it. He said it wasn't my fault and sent me another copy. It never once dawned on me that I'd get better results by coming on this forum and threatening not

Tom Kirkman's book, Rod Building Guide, probably has the best illustrated instructions on basic cross wraps ever done. Color photos, step by step. From there Billy Vivona has a book with more intricate wraps, assuming you have the basics done. Dale Clemens book on Custom Rod Thread Art is a favorite but assumes you know how to do the wraps and gives you patterns to try. People can argue over w

Same as with most wood items I would think. Most boat type rods with wood handles were finished over bare, sanded wood with a type of clear varnish or these days polyurethane. Look for an exterior gloss kind for outdoor furniture. I've had good luck with those products on wood boat rod handles.

Carol- if you want the choke guide closer than where 27X puts it then why not just use a different factor? If you know about where the choke guide works for you and the line you use you could measure a few set ups and determine the factor that will give you that location. You might find it turns out to be 20X or even 15X. But once you have that you would have a consistent means of locating the ch

OK for arguments sake I was willing to be proven wrong. So I taped on a reel, which is the only way I could come up with Tom's left or right suggestion, pointed EXACTLY 5 degrees to the left of the rod centerline. I've never seen a reel that had more than 4 degrees upsweep and most less than that so I figured this would be good enough for arguments sake. Then I went out about 20 minutes ago and c

I can't see how static testing would place two guides so close together that far down on the butt section. Either way the bumper only serves to keep the line off the blank as it passed from top to bottom so it would be "effective" but I think your placement needs to be reworked. If those two guides are that close, I'd drop the guide at 20" and just make the one at 24" the butt

I believe what he said was that the small differences that exist in spool upsweep do not make any difference and from my own tests in shimming reels to try and change casting distance, Tom is right. You took two different reels, not the same reel and adjusted upsweep. That's what you should try. Saying that it must have an effect because it would if you turned the reel around backwards is just co

The nice thing about the photo page here is that it serves as a complete database for thousands of rod building photos going back over a decade. If you are trying to find a photo from memory you can go to the page and search under the username or category and usually find it. With all the various facebook book and similar pages these days it's tough to remember where you saw something or have to
