Scott, I bought a vapor trail 11'- 3 to 6 oz. one peice blank at the surf day show here in NJ two weeks ageo. I was curious to know the set up used by Rich the distributor here in NJ for CTS. He sent me his set up for my blank which is a seven guide C O F system that I haven't used in my test casting. I did a set up using FUJI K guides along with some high framed single foot guides and did some

Jim, If you have a correct size guide with a black frame you can always rub off the black paint with a Scotch Brite pad and also thats not a heat shrink tube attatchment for that guide. All ugly stik rods are wrapred in black thread and then painted over with red and yellow trim bands. Testors yellow is an exact match and also their red for the guide trim.

Jon, Before you dismantle those rods could you post a few pictures so we can have a look at what you have. You just may be doing more harm than good . If you decide to go ahead with this project please follow Bills' advice and stay away from the epoxy too.

Use the cork from a wine bottle.Drill a hole in one end just big enough to snugly hold the end of the blank and insert it in the chuck or if you use flex-coat dryers, they fit perfectly into the rubber boot of them.It also works for wrapping tip sections, prevents jaw pressure on the blank. After a while your bench will have a bunch of these in all sizes and there's no excuse for not having them at

Using braid in the field for emergency repairs is probly the best thing to have.Just strip some off your reel and go to town. But, totaly overkill for wrapping ferrules on a new build. Besides ,what are your color choices.

John, First off let me say that wire is nowhere near that of braid or mono so a straight line path is more or less the rule when it comes to trolling with that in use. Second, if #8 guides will pass your leader/ swivel connections then thats not a problem. Third, I'm a fan of using roller guides with wire at the butt and tip/top. And finially ,"A two piece sprial wrapped wire line rod&qu

Kevin, One item your always going to use for rodbuildind is a tabel top 1" wide belt sander for dressing guide feet. I bought mine in LOWES for $39.and I'll never go back to hand filing again, except for the saddle I use a chain saw file.

Brad,Thank you for your reply.I was not aware of the size"B" situation. Almost everyone listed "B" as an option of thread size when it was available. I only use black. As I said, I keep a 4 oz. spool on my carrage. I do alot of repairs and "B" is what I think works the best. Others may think that it adds bulk but, it does'nt. There is a slight differance between A an

Marryann, I can relate to your problem and can only sugest that if you can find a supply of size "B" thread it would be a help. I myself keep a 4 oz. spool of size "B" black on my carrage at all times. I find that it is a great all around size to work with and will fit in well other color sizes. Now, let me say that if anyone from Gudebrod and the other thre

Marc, If your not concerned about saving the reelseat use a heatgun to seperate the handle. Also, if the rod is very old there may be a pin thru the reelseat which must be removed.

Jim, In the period that your rod was built a lot of rods were wrapped with two color thread without underwraps. The two colors were many. The reason its called space dyed is because some times the colors were not of equeal spacing.Meaning, say you had a spool of blue and yellow, when you would wrap a guide, or the section above the foregrip, one color may have been dyed to create a longer span of

Adam, If you have a o-ring or a flat rubber washer there already then, you may have to check for damaged threads on the barrel of your reel seat.

Dennis Danku
It's best to put a flat rubber washer or an O'ring between the locking nuts to prevent that from happening.

Abram, Did you dress the underfoot of your guides? Its very important to creat a saddle on small guides to preven the rocking chair effect.Actually all guides shuld be dressed for maximum contact with the blank.
