Awesome thanks! Quick question, like everything in fishing size 1000 is different for every company. Would happen to have measurements on that? I just got a Pflueger Supreme XT for Christmas size 30 - but when I looked at the reviews people said they ran small - holding it I think I'd agree but my newest one before that is a 7 year old cheap size 3000 that holds 200 more yards of 8# mono. Woul

The rodbuilding.org app, in Google play store or Apple app store. Then you can post pictures right in your post in the thread. If you have a dollar tree near you it's worth checking out for smaller plastic storage options, tool section and craft section.

Not to hijack but still on topic - what about a 7'2 light rod for drop shot/ned rig? Mostly braid and sometimes braid to 6-8 Pound fluorocarbon. I've heard the American Tackle microwave system is the simplest to lay out and effective in its intention, but if I could get away with a 2 gide reduction then there would be a little reduction in weight - and depending on static test maybe more so if

@ROGER when I saw him pull line to his rod holding hand I thought oh boy there it is - I can't even understand why he did that, must have just not been thinking about what he was doing. Sometimes I get nervous in the kayak when trying to get a good fish close enough especially finesse fishing with light tackle.

@DARYL welcome to the forum! I grabbed some plastic storage from Dollar Tree and Walmart for components and tools - helps keeps things organized... kind of because my table is still a mess. I'm new myself and still figuring out what systems work and how to organize etc. You should download the app from the play store or app store and post pics of the build, the color scheme sounds nice.

@Jonathan welcome to the forum ! I'm new and still doing research - I trust the experience and expertise of Gary Loomis and here is what I found from him. at 1:30 he states that about 90% of the time if there's a bend it lines up with the spine anyway - then goes on to explain you should put guides on based on the spine and never mention ls being concerned about a bend in another directio

Hey Rob,welcome to the forum! The best way to post pics is to download the app on either android or ios and post them directly in the thread. I'm new myself but I'll say this from my research - depending on the intended purpose the market is different. I've seen custom tuna rods for $1400 and custom bass rods for $250 and everything in between. What makes a custom rod desirable is diffe

I'm watching this on YouTube and scrolling through RB when I see a post that says "How to pick the right Guide," and I'm like perfect - I can watch a video on it and see what this guy's got to say about it... I'm in the matrix haha. Maybe I should grab one of those Matrix blanks and complete the meta

You're opening line can almost be as sensitive a topic - but rings true nonetheless, I'm grateful for the reminder brother. You stopped me dead in my tracks with that opener and sent me through a series of links and articles and google searches while standing in the same spot in my basement about to set up and wrap some guides. I've actually been looking into this a bit myself - measuring

Many people here speak highly of the RX10, but this review certainly causes a bit of hesitation if at around $350 it feels just good and not great or better. I was hoping to bump into an RX10 on sale for black friday, alas I did not. So you glue a thread barrel to the blank against a seat that has no barrel...? Very interesting

@DAVID I'm not worried about breaking, I just noticed it and was wondering if it could be adding to the issue. But I practiced with some size a thread and it seemed better, but I'll give some 10# braid a go too.

Thanks forbthe replies yall Haha yes autocorrect trying to wet my blank! @TOM I think I agree and respectfully disagree simultaneously. I have bumped into a number of threads over the past handful of years here and I think I may try to run some tests myself and create another thread. But I do believe most of the time what is felt is merely opposing force on the end of the lure as it pertain

I have the st. Croix victory 72MhMf which is close to the Rodgeeks c3 72MhM - obviously little faster but it claims to be designed for light cranks. I haven't used it much for such, only fished it the end of this past season and used it more for chatterbait and swim jig. It felt just a tad soft for the swim jig, but only a tad and I'm hoping to build a slightly faster but still moderate fast rod

@ALL thankS for sharing! I like how different they all are and how simple it can be given the space. @DAVID the only way to post a picture in the thread instead of some obscure way that has never worked for me and makes it so discussions and images for reference are in separate places is to use the app. Download the app from the Play Srore or App Store and you can add an image directly in t

Is it just marketing hype? It seems reasonable considering that the same way Point Blank markets their butts to essentially do the same thing. Doing this would then add grips that do what the Point Blank butt is claiming to do - and it seems many if not everyone who has used a point blank thinks very highly of them. Are there grips available with a similar design shape? They claim to u

This is my latest wrap - done by hand and tighter than others. Next time I will put the pull through in even earlier - but another issue popped up. The pull through loop twists at rest. I put my wrapping thread through the loop and then my pull through loop twists further and nubs at the last wrap when pulled tight. I'm using size d thread as pull through. Switch to A?

Decided to try to wrap some guides while spending some time with the wife. In the living room I took the bolt and wing nut and washers from the Batson hand wrapper I got and stuck them into the side of a small box. With the box at my feet I pulled the thread up and over the blank and started wrapping. I still struggle a bit to get traction right away, but once I did it was what felt like a mu

I might be wrong because I'm new, but whiteout experience would dictate thar a rod as ultra light action as that would not need to be top of the line. The sensitivity would be in its ease of deflection rather than any vibration transfer through the blank. If you're using braid or braid to leader you could probably get away with a little bit of a sturdier blank without losing casting distance

I was hoping to get some pics of everyone's set up for how they do their CCS testing. I'm hoping to start doing some of my own and need to try to maximize the space in my basement for it and I'm looking for inspiration.

@ROGER I would be nervous to put 50 finished rods just willy nilly together in a box, do you do anything to protect them or prevent damage? But honestly If I ever have 50 finished rods at the same time my wife would probably have me committed. Maybe I could try to find a way to either use full rod tubes (cardboard and/or pvc) or cut them in half and make a couple of racks that way to separate

I might give gluing tip top first to see how it works for me. @SPENCER why wouldn't gluing tip top first work for your builds? Do you still do it after the grips/seat and static test after that? @CHRIS how do you do your braid guide alignment check? do you attach a reel and a light weight to the end of the line? I have an old Shakespeare ultra light spinning that busted - I'm going to tr

Very interesting about the last 2 comments above me - entirely contrary to one another. Does anybody have any CCS data on the MHX Elite Pros to actually measure if they are relatively softer or more stiff?

I'm taking it all in, gonna compare both ways and invest in something Dr. Slick. I did some more wraps last night and all had the same result tugging tight with pull through and then cutting close, but maybe I just need to find a way to cut closer. I was thinking after maybe its the angle I was pulling through, should it be 45 up and slightly in the direction of the wrap? I had been going for
