@Tom - I acknowledged that in my initial post, and gave specifics on the type of fishing in referring to. I'm not trying to ascertain Hamnan's correlation to medium. I'm sure you've handled more than a few rods labeled medium, from your experience Tom, would you say a medium is more like an IP of 250g or 650g? If somebody new to the forum asked you specifically for a blank recommendation looking

@ Steven - thanks, I have a number of posts within that thread and Mick was the only person to share his thoughts on IP conversion to common rod shopping language. Are you saying you second him and agree that he is spot on with his suggested IP to English conversion exactly? @Mick - thanks for the detailed suggestions! I've been back and forth on how fast I was looking for, but again I'm st

Hi all, I'm looking to grab a 7'3 or longer blank for 1/8-5/16oz (mostly 1/4oz) jigs/shaky heads/swim jigs/t-rigs and other medium fast-ish angles. I feel like a medium fast rod should be rated something like 3/16-5/8 give or take a sixteenth or so. It will be a casting rod for open water/sparse cover. Maybe on the beefier side because we get some nasty weeds as the summer kicks in. Perhaps a

I have recently discovered the only one true way to measure sensitivity. Shimano contacted me to contest my claims that their Poison Adrena rod is not 140% more sensitive. I'm assuming they got my email address from the board, they were very cordial in their email but I could tell they were ticked I've been calling them out on here. First of all I was absolutely floored that somebody from Shi

@Jared welcome to the forum, hope you stick around and ask more questions! I'm not familiar with the blank, but I'll say this - NFC is a small company doing big things. They provide blanks to us little guys and rod manufactures producing mass finished product. They often admit to having lengthy wait times, and apparently there was some weather issues messing with them and I'm sure impactin

Please help us new builders avoid this finish, no need to be coy here - this is a place for sharing information, new age old timey word of mouth style lessons for the next generation of builders... like folklore passed on from generation to generation, help us learn and grow and know which mushrooms are edible and which will keel us over for days - What is the finish called?

So what's going on? Anybody bring blanks or rods for the competition? Did NFC win? Which is the most sensitive blank? I need to buy another I'm sure!

Here is a random pic I found from in the photo section- I'd love to know if there was any discussion about it - I've seen a few people ask about painting blanks and the hydro dip for a whole blank sounds crazy. Would it affect sensitivity... wait... do we mean sensitivity like a cavity or a loose tooth? Anyway, it's my understanding that Dropbox is a cloud storage platform and that's why u

I would also add, that as somebody who has never seen the aurora, but can deeply appreciate the beauty of God’s creation - that I have heard Iceland is a wonderful vacation spot, particularly because the aurora can be hyper intense and enthralling over over. I wouldn’t mind one day enjoying that view. Looking forward to seeing how your build progresses my man, good stuff.

Already looks good man, got me excited for a build haha. I bounced around the article too, I’ve always believed that when the media and government tells us to look at balloons in the sky we need to look that much harder at the streets around us and not fall for their distractions. They have technology that far surpasses what us regular folk are even allowed to dream of. As for your build, g

Last year I purchased a piscifun rod called the viper- marketed with that name because it is unsande and felt like snake skind. I was ignorant at the time as to why that was the marketing ploy, it just happened to meet my specs I was looking for. Now that I'm a builder, I can see how the crazy long grip length can be shortened , because this piscifun 6'10 M Xf has like a 14 inch grip or somet

@Tom over seen it said, and your comment would also imply, that sanded blanks are softer than the same blank unwanted. So there's that to consider, although I'm not sure how much of a difference could be measured. Also, not every manufacturer passes on the labor savings to their consumer - same price sanded or unsanded.

To be fair @MIKE a significant percentage of people believe that weight is a deterrent to sensitivity- spiral wrapped rods often have less guides than conventional wrapped rods ergo, by a technical standpoint, would be more sensitive. You only know of one builder who said that 20 years ago? I've seen it on this board in the past 5 months. But yes that spiral spinning rod is either a typical

The reason he didn't see his pics is because of the old site programming and the new app not playing very nice - it happens to me every time I post pics. There have been a couple of times that I upload like 5 times just to get it on, and then I have to wait a while to see if it made it onto the site out of the app.

I've been feeling a bit like I want more moderate fast in all my rods now, or maybe it's fast but will still pull down into the mid section... idk. I'd be really curious to try that rod for tubes,.

I lost the only double digit fishing I'll ever get the chance to even accidentally cast near about 4/5 years ago. I'm MA a 5 pound bass is BIG, a 6 pound bass and you'll walk on clouds for a couple years, 7 pounds and you might pee a little when you see it. I knew a guy who said it took him over 60 years to catch a fish over 8 pounds... I've been heartbroken over that fish I lost, and sometimes

@Daryl don't believe the hype! We're not defined by the boxes people put us in. Paint the box, cut and glue the box into a rocket ship, burn the box (but get out first ;) You're more than a data point to me my friend, but we can also say that a Van Gough painting is nothing more than an array of data points that have been connected and arranged to make the beauty we see in the museum- we're da

I've fished 30 ft leaders on an FG not with finesse line and 30/40# braid to 17# fluoro for 5-10 trips without any issues. I will say on finesse set ups that many trips did eventually turn into some gnarly wind knots and a tangle in the guides ending that FG knots career - but I certainly got my money's worth out of it. That was all due to the line twist tossing ned rigs and tubes, and partly bec

@Bob I really appreciate it my man, I'm not the sensitive type and try not to he the reactive type either. I'd rather defend/advocate for the people and things I care about (rod building and the community now in that company) than get defensive. But it means a lot that you would step in on behalf of a fellow builder, that is the kind of comradery I'm trying to espouse in this community myself bro

That's also part of what I'm saying Tom and Mike- the next generation of 40 year olds will be accustomed to a certain level of tech. And on top of that it doesn't specify what kind of marketing has been wasted on recruiting younger builders - but I've seen practically zero on any place on the internet. So if you spent market dollars to send paper invitations to join the community then yes you abs

I believe the market majority is 50 or above easily, but Dale Clemens wasn't 50 when he started. Gary Loomis wasn't 50 when he started. I think the market is mostly 50 and above because nobody is marketing to the next generation, that's my point. My point is also that it's very clear 70% of the rod building community isn't posting here. Whoever in this game wants to build the community it
