Red label Corrosion X is a great product. Will not harm your reels.. Have used the same bottle since the 90's - you don't need much..

I like underwraps on most of all my SW rods except the lighter ones. It adds a peace of mind to me and I like to coat the underwraps with a thin layer. It helps with the overwraps. The unitized wheel that Bingham sells is great to get the burrs off...

Shawn I have had tape arbors fail especially on the gimbal. I never had a drywall fail. I have tried the big arbors that Acid Rod sells and it is a great idea for the bigger "3" reel seats from Aftco. Gotta lover the colors.. Ernie

Billy that is such sage advice. A long time ago, you said the same thing to me. After I was a little perturbed by your words(who is this internet jerk), I realize that you were right . much easier to try these things than ask...imo...

Bobby To me clamping at the butt and measuring deflection is okay for fly rods but not okay for spinning/casting rods. I think you want to measure the deflection based on the length of the blank that is really to be used. Some rods have 8" butts some have 14" butts. Ernie

Is the CCS method kinda archaic now and really only valid for fly rods? I have reviewed the site and it just seems to me..(imo) that there is a better way... Does anyone know a competing system that handles spinning/casting blanks? Just curious. Ernie

I would echo the 180lbs rods as i expect they will be using 200lbs line. I like the calstar also. My only comment would be to ensure your friend has re-enforced the gunnel where the swivel rod holder goes..ie..a solid backing plate.. I have seen to many blown out gunnels. A true giant hitting with the high drag really puts some strain there..

All my kids use 5' 6in spinning rods with zebco under-spin reels. (fresh water) They range in age (4-7) They work well.. I made their saltwater rods 7 foot...The young one reels with it in the rod holder. I figure they will grow into them...

I got the tubular. Also how the thread tensioner is attached is different. (or so I am told...) I thought I was going to take my wrapper down more often, but I really don't.. Just remember to either put cork tape on the chuck head or use rubber bands on the blank when attaching to the chuck. This way the blank will not slip out. Since using the rubber band trick, I have not had one rod sl

I have only seen one boat use these. Much better to get swivel rod holders. If you can't/don't want to replace the rod holders, you can pick up inserts that mount inside the rod holder to make the rod swivel, but the rod holder must be bolted thru with backing plates. etc..

Billy You can still feel the torque even when strapped in. I really only feel it when it near the boat and it moves left or right and down. That is why the rod pops out of the gimbal alot. You can really see the tip torque. (I have seen it on shorter rods). If the fish is away from the boat the effect is nil. When I fished the acid wrapped last year, it was really nice when the fish

A few questions Are you chunking or trolling? (this will help determine Hypolon/Eva versus Unibutt/slick butt) Are you on a Party boat and going to use the rail? If so, you may want to look at the composite foregrip that is meant for rail rods.. I am assuming you are building a rail rod based on your blank. Based on a 63" rod, 5 or 6 HD guides are okay, but need to do a static.

Jared if you have the Merrick catalogue, there is picture of the different anodized butts. I don't know the pricing or availability. I thought about those, but still opting to go with the sleeve (slick) butts as the butts always get knicked up in the rod holder and I know the anodized colors would oon be gone where the in front of the butt where it meets the rod holder and that woul
