Used carbon grips on my last build . They are definitely not slippery . I used the standard NFC grips because the soft touch was not available for the seat I wanted to use . I love the standard grips . Did I mention they are not slippery :) Ron

Pawel, May be off little help but , when I was considering an NFC blank , I found the same differences you mentioned . Everyone here advised me to only look at the specs listed in the catalog . Not sure why there is a difference but , supposedly the catalog is the go to source for specs . Ron

I've been researching online prior to starting my first fly rod build and noticed that quite a few of the high end commercially available rods have a trim band wrap at the base of the tip top . Is this needed for a functional reason or is it just bling ? I will be attempting a 9 ft 5wt . Thanks Ron

First, I've got to say I think Mr. Danek's idea is excellent . I know , like Mr. Kirkman suggested , that I can draw from the wealth of experience from members here but I'm not sure if the more experienced members can remember how bewildering the lack of the most basic industry standards can be to those of us just starting out . My question would be why an idea with seemingly so much merit has no

If you can find this grip , I believe the specs say that the recess diameter is 0.795 . Just check the brands of reel seats you're interested in . Most of the uplocking seats will have a hood and it's diameter should be listed in the specs . For instance , American Tackle's U5 has a hood diameter of 0.772 and should work with little if any modification . Not suggesting this seat , just an example

I have searched online but been unable to find a rod building component business with a physical location in my area - Central to Southeast Tennessee or North Alabama . I am specifically looking for a selection of thread for wraps . Thanks. Ron

Wow El . Inlays and twisted thread inlays ( put those two twisted thread inlays together and you'll have a saw blade inlay just reverse the twist on one ) . Way more courage than I had on my first wraps . Keep it up . The advice you've gotten in this thread is excellent . Since you're into inlays , if you haven't seen it , you might take a look at this video . Keep up the good work . Edit

I assume you have a tapered reamer . If not , I would suggest you purchase one ( or a set ) or make your own from an old rod blank . Ream from the back or butt end , go slowly , allow the grip to turn in your hand a little while reaming , and above all check often by sliding the grip on the blank to dry fit . You're gonna love your carbon fiber grips .

Just looked on a Zenaq distributor's website and the most expensive rod listed there was the Tobizo Popping rod which listed for $1,199.99 . Their shipping must be a true bear :) All academic for me . Even at that listed price , I doubt I could afford one of their butt guides :) Ron

I have almost gotten used to dealing with a curve in the last few inches of my spinning rod blanks - I just align the guides with the blank in a "tip up" orientation . Works pretty well but .... I'm just starting on my first fly rod - a 9 foot , 5wt , 2 piece and the butt section is curved or "bowed" so that , when it is rolled on a flat surface to a certain orientation , the

Really appreciate y'all taking the time to help me with this . Perhaps you can understand that , with all of the above being true , it is difficult for new comers to feel comfortable buying " a pig in a poke" . I guess it's like a lot of things where you have to pay your dues and get a little experience under your belt . That can be disheartening for old codgers :) Thanks again. Ron

How current is the CCS Database in the link on the left ? Am I right in assuming that values listed there are from several different contributors ? ( There are just too many cases where the same blank model is listed with different values . ) I've been lurking on the recent thread about IP, AA, ERN, etc. Thanks. Ron

Thanks for all of the info . I know problems can come up but , when I called them and could get no information , I was concerned that I might not receive my blank at all . Ordered the blank just after Halloween and it will make a dandy Christmas present LOL Thanks again . Ron
