I believe that I would choose the 9', 2 piece G Loomis in the GLX grade. I am about 6 months from retirement and my favorite stream is Rock Creek in SW MT.

155. Test casting?
What do you look for when test casting to determine guide placement? When I move the first guide up or down on a spinning rod I don't seem to be able to tell any difference in the casting. I ended up with the first guide, a 25, at 21" from the reel face and I don't see any rod slap with the line. Should I be checking for other things as the distance or what? I used 6 guides plus tip on

Would someone please list the steps that you would follow to build a cork grip on a spinning rod from cork rings? What is the best way to glue the rings together and how much pressure do you exert to ensure that the rings are seated but not deformed? I assume that the last process is the snading or shaping. Is there a good reference document for this? TIA

I have trouble with starting the wrap as I have to fiddle with it to get the thread securred. Also when I finish the wrap and pull the thread back through I sometimes get a little thread sticking up between the threads. Any help would be appreciated.

158. First rod tips
Maybe some of these tips will help beginners avoid the mistakes that I made on my first rod.
1. Go slow and take your time. Do not be in a rush.
2. Make sure that all of the components match up and they are what you want to build this rod.
3, Have a good light which will enable you to see the wraps as you work. Re-wrap anything that does not look GOOD!
4. Taper the top end of the guide

159. Guide goof?
I made a mistake with the tip # 8 and first guide # 7. The rod is for my personal use but will this make any difference? I have not put the finish on yet but would have to wait for a # 8, 1st guide. The rod is 7' spinning with 6 guides & tip.

160. Re: line slap ???
My 25MM 1st guide is 23 1/4" from the reel face on a 7' spinning rod. I am not sure if this is the best distance but it seems to work well for me using 8lb mono.

I am just a novice rod builder but I suggest that you use the Forhan Locking wrap for your single foot guides. I have tried this wrap and is is easy and looks great although it took me several wraps and/or rewraps to get it right. You can find it in the Library at the top of the forum. Hope this helps.

Has anyone used the new TATSG single leg, single foot guides on a spinning rod yet and are there any problems with the single leg design? TIA
