I have used this seat on several 7' spinning rods and really like how it feels/looks/functions.

I don't understand this process? I thought that the scuffing was to prepare the blank for a "water break free" surface prior to gluing a reel seat or handle and the scuffed part of the blank would then be covered up. Are you refering to scuffing & coating the entire blank? Thanks

I failed to mix the Flex Coat Lite properly and now I have a soft finish on my guide wraps. My question is what is the best method to remove this material so that I can re-coat with the right mixture? TIA

I have a dumb question on the spiral wrap. When you reel in a fish with the reel on top wouldn't the line be away from the rollers and be rubbing on the guide hoods? What am I missing and thanks?

I don't understand the concern about the knots as they will be outside all of the guides when casting/flyfishing. Am I missing something here as I am assuming this is a fly rod. TIA

I have used a fine hacksaw blade & a miter box to cut the reel seat. I make sure that it will be just a little bit larger than the reel feet that I plan to use on the rod & then cut about 1/32nd or 1/64th beyond this point. I then finish the end of the reel seat with a block of wood and fine sandpaper. I found that cutting slowly helps.

Make sure that when you mix the Flex Coat that you have exact & equal quantities of both parts. I use a mixing cup & measure with syringes and then pour the mixed liquid onto a foil lined plate. You will not need a lot of the Flex Coat to put the finish on the rod. The mixture will turn clear after the mixing has been completed & I use a plastic swizzle stick for mixing and a small

Do you think this was true with G Loomis when they offered both blanks & finished rods?

I use the foregrips on my spinning rods when fishing from a float tube and also when placing the rods in a rod holder on my small boat when the grandkids are fishing with me. We sometimes troll or still fish for catfish and the foregrip is necessary to align the rod properly when placed in the rod holder.

I have good results with Flex Coat Light and found out to mix it EXACTLY as the Flex Coat site video instructs and NO more bubble problems for me, (do not mix or stir too fast). I use the syringes to ensure accurate mix quantities and then pour the mixture onto a foil covered plate for the application. I use a brush and have not had any problems with the finish not coming out smooth. I heat bo

This is how I do the Forhan wrap & would like to know if this is the correct method. When the thread starts to climb up the guide foot or frame leg, I put 2 wraps to the right, assuming I am wrapping left to right, then 3 wraps around the foot and 3 more wraps to the right of the foot. Thanks

I build my cork handles on the rod blank. I use Flex Coat epoxy and a brush and as I put on a cork ring I paint the top of the last ring & blank. When finished I clamp the handle tight and let dry overnight. This method seems to work for me. Be sure and wrap the reel seat & exposed blank in masking tape before doing any sanding of the handles. I also use several thin coats of Tru Oil

I believe that Fuji has discontinued the Gold Cermet Spinning guides in sizes smaller than 12. Anyone have a reason for this or any other information? TIA
I should add that the P/N for the guides is T1LVGG6,7,8,10U.

My go to Red Drum rod is a 7' P8400 GLX with a Daiwa Certate 3000 reel. This rod/reel has been adequate for fish up to about 12lbs and I use Fireline braid. Unfortunately this blank is no longer available from Shamino BUT I would recommend a similar popping rod in the 7’ to 7.6’ range. I don’t believe that you would be disappointed with this setup.

I use a size 3000 spinning reel with 8lb mono because it seems to me that I have way fewer problems with the line tangles than a 2500. I have several rods all with a 25MM first guide and both the 3000 & 2500 seem to work fine with this setup. One tip I may offer is ALWAYS, ALWAYS close the bail by hand and give the line a quick tug while raising the tip as you start to reel in the slack lin

Thanks all and I was able to remove the old tip using the paper clip/rubber band method however the tip was lost when it popped off as I went outside when I heated the tip. This is good as now I will have to put on a new tip and not worry about trying to solder the damaged tip.

54. Tip guide repair
I have a problem with a spinning rod tip guide that I don't know how to repair except to replace the tip. The problem is the small support arm from the tip ring, each side, that wraps around the barrel has come loose from the barrel and this appears like some form of weld to me. If I remove the tip from the rod would I be able to solder this arm connection to the middle of the barrel and would

55. K Series Guides
I am curious if anyone has experience with the new K series guides that are designed to reduce the tangles that sometime form at the first guide from the reel on spinning rods. This problem seems to be more prevalent with braid than mono line. Thanks

When I build the rod for my own use, I do NOT wrap the tip as it serves no purpose other than looks and it adds a very small amount of weight.

I have heard rumors that a new rod design with new material will be introduced later this year and/or next that is supposed to revolutionize the fishing rod business. Does anyone have any info on this new material which was, I believe, developed by 3M for the space technology, lighter & stronger etc.?

This is what seems to work for me. I pass the thread through a book with about 150/200 pages of tension when I am wrapping the guides and I am able to move/align the guides slightly when the rod is completed and I use the Forhan locking wrap on the single foot spinning guides. I wrap from left to right and when the thread reaches the foot of the guide I do a wrap behind, (to the right), of the
