121. Re: First wrap
I find that this works for me. I keep the thread supply at a slight angle to the wrap so that it is tight against the previous wrap BUT not so much of an angle that it rides up over the other wrap. This thread supply comes from a large book that I use for tension and it is easy to move the book slightly to get the right angle. I also push the warps tight against each other by using my finger/t

Someone on this board suggested that you place the section on top of a couple of books at each end and then press down in the middle and the section should/would roll/snap into place with the spine identified.

123. TruOil
Two questions on TruOil?
1. Do you apply the oil with your finger?
2. How many coats do you apply?
I have used my finger in a lengthwise direction and about 10 coats but I think that is overkill. Do more coats actually sink in to the coark or just buildup on the surface? Thanks

124. Re: Loomis GLX
I have 7 of the GLX rods and they all have the somewhat dark grey dull look. I put the Fuji gold Cermets on a 7' GLX & 9' IMX and they are for my personal use as I don't know of anyone who would spend $500+ for parts to build/sell these type rods. They are awsome to fish with. I stuck a 22"+ LMB with the 7' saturday am. I would not put a finish on the GLX and just leave it as is. I

9’ 2 piece G Loomis IMX ST1084-2 for 8 to 12lb line. This is a sweet spinning rod blank that will cast lures and bait a long long way.

I have modified 2 of the Fuji soft touch reel seats with no problems at all. I used a miter box and a hack saw blade and then sandpaper on a block for the fine tuning. Be sure and match the reel to the seat so that you don't remove too much.

G. Loomis 7’ GLX P8400 is an excellent blank that I believe your customer would really like for this type of fishing. Mudhole among others carry this blank.

I have used this method twice with good results. I reamed out the hole in the cap and then plugged the rubberized plug into this hole with epoxy on both pieces. When dry I just cut off the excess plug and then put this rubberized ring on the bottom of my clamp and built the rest of the handle with the cork rings. When dry I sanded the handle down and you cannot detect the plug in the end cap.

First let me state that I am a beginner. I wrapped & finished a single foot guide using 'A' thread, (Forhan style). I didn’t like the way the finished wrap looked so I cut off the thread in preparation for the re-wrap. I found that the guide was securely stuck to the blank by the Flex Coat finish and it appeared that the finish had seeped or leached under the guide foot. In my opinion t

131. Cork ring fit
Should the cork rings fit pretty snug or slide right into position on the blank?

I have never built a 2-piece rod before and need to know if I should put a wrap on the female ferrule to give it strength say 1.5 to 2" or is this unnecessary. Thanks

I would like some suggestions for an 8' to 9' spinning blank for light saltwater use for casting for Spanish & Blues. The line would be in the 8 to 12lb class and with that length probably a two-piece would be better. Any other hints would be appreciated as I have limited experience-building rods but really enjoy it. TIA

I believe that the Loomis GLX P4800 7' blank is what you want. Several of the compaines listed carry them @ $210.00.

136. Forhan guide wrap
I seem to have trouble making adjustments with my single foot guides after using the Forhan guide wrap. By adjustments I mean getting all of the guides into perfect alignment. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You may want to try this, I tie on a 8lb mono leader using a blood knot with about 10 yards of leader to the braid. I let the lure hang from the rod tip 15" to 24" and after the cast always, always close the bail by hand and give the line a quick tug before reeling. Sounds awkard but after you try it a few times it will become second nature. I use a 7' spinning rod and I don't seem t

Thanks

Mud Hole has very nice cork rings in the 1/2" size, SCR2B. I just finished my first spinning rod handle using these rings and it turmed out to be easy to do using their cork ring clamp. These rings are flawless and I finished up with 320 & 400 grit sandpaper.

I just finished a G Loomis spinning rod and when I put the label on the gold lettering came off. I contacted G Loomis and they sent me a couple more so be real careful when pressing down on the label when applying. I just peeled off the label from the backing and stuck it on the blank without using any water. G Loomis confirmed that the label is necessary for warranty of the rod blank if somet

Be sure to check out the DPSSD seats & I believe that the second 'S' stands for soft. I just built a rod and this seat is very nice. You can get them from Mud Hole.

I believe that the G Loomis P8400 in GLX would be an excellent choice. I just finished building my Christmas present rod and it really turned out great. Mud Hole has this blank.

Ditto and I would also like to thank all for the answers to my questions. Just finished my second spinning rod in which I built the handle from cork rings after reading comments on this board. I am bery pleased with the way it turned out.
Thanks to all & have a very safe and happy 2007!!!

I have used a miter box and a hack saw blade to get a square cut on the threaded part of the seat and then snadpaper on a block of wood to smooth the end off. This end presses into the cork ring on the handle and looks graet but I am just a beginner at rod building.

145. Single foot guides
I just received my T1LVGCC set of spinning guides from Mud Hole which by the way has fantastic service and a great customer service department. My question is should the guide ring be at 90 degrees to the foot/blank or slightly bent towards the tip? Should I bend them before installation. TIA

148. Guide selection?
I was thinking on using this combination of Fuji TILVGG guides on a 7', medium/fast light actin GLX spinning rod, 25, 20, 16, 12, 10, 8, with a 8 TIPGT. Does this seem about right and TIA.
