I have them on 2 spinning rods, 7' GLX & 9' IMX, and absolutely no wear after 2+ years of use. These guides are the very best that you can find and the only ones that I will use! JMHO

Dumb question, is cork seal and Tru oil similar products? TIA

I have used both types of rubberized cork rings from Mudhole and they should have a plug for the ring with the 1/4" hole that you glue in after the ring has been placed on the butt end of the handle. After the handle is glued and set, you can sand the rings for a smooth transition between the rubberized cork & the plain cork ring. If the rubberized ring is being used for the butt you c

You may want to look at this rod to see if it matches what you are looking for. 9’ 2 piece G Loomis IMX ST1084-2. I believe that most of the blank dealers stock this model.

I finish my cork rod handles with Tru Oil and use them while fishing from a float tube. The handles are usually wet and I have never had a problem with them being slippery and/or difficult to hold. This finish makes the handles easy to clean off the fish slime with lake water after I am lucky enough to catch something.

I have found that Tru-oil works well as a finish to the cork handles and does NOT seem slippery/slick to me when wet. After a year of use or when needed you can lightly sand and re-apply the Tru-oil to cover up small dings, dirt and scratches. I use masking tape to cover the exposed rod & reel seat when applying the Tru-oil. I fish from a float tube and after releasing a fish it is simple

I built a GLX P8400 rod and the finish is a uniform dark dull gray over the entire length. I also have 6 other GLX rods that are the same color. Please let us know what G Loomis CS says if you call them.

102. Re: Blank Help
You may want to look at the G Loomis P8400 in GLX. This is an excellent blank for what you describe.

Mark, with my 7', 6 guides plus tip spinning rod bent with the reel up, I see that the line touches the rod between the tip & first guide & between the 1st & 2nd guides. Would this be an indication that I need to add another guide and re-position the 1st through 4th? TIA

Be sure and check out the GLX P8400 7' blank. I use this rod for exactly the type of fishing you describe. Fantastic rod.

SPINNING ROD
Rod Blank G. Loomis 9’ IMX ST1084-2
I built this rod for light salt water use and it is exactly what I need. Great for plugs, spoons and light bottom rigs. I am using the Daiwa SS 1600 reel with it.

107. Wrap finish cracking
I have noticed that the guide wrap finish for the first 3 guides has a small crack at the end of the single foot guide foot. They are the first 3 guides from the spinning reel. I put on 2 coats of Flex Coat High Build Wrap Finish and these cracks showed up after a year of use. The rod is a GLX 7' P8400 with 6 guides plus tip. Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong would be appreciated.

On my GLX, 9', 4wt, 2 piece, the 6th guide is at 37.5" from the tip.

Here is a tip that I got from Bill Dance that may help with spinning reel 'wind' knots. Always close the bail by hand after the cast and give the line a quick tug as you start cranking. This may sound awkward but after a little practice it becomes second nature. This has helped me with my wind knot problems.

110. Re: Cork finishing
I put on several coats of the TruOil and rub the handles with very fine steel wool between coats. I also find that after use you can touch up the cork with another coat. Hope this helps.

I agree with Buddy 100% as this is the way I hold the rod/reel.

For my use the full wells grip is more comfortable to me BUT it is probally due to my old age and arthritis. I use it on 4, 5 and 6wt fly rods.

116. Re: Guide Placement
You may want to use these guide measurments as a starting point for your 7' GLX spinning rod and all of these are measured from the tip. I used 6 Fuji single foot guides plus tip.
1. 5", 2. 10.75" 3. 18" 4. 26" 5. 36.25" 6. 49.5" and 23" from the last butt guide, 25mm, to the center line of the spinning reel spool. You can tape them on in these p

I believe that you must have a defective blank as you stated using 6lb line which I would expect to break long before the rod.

You may want to look at the G Loomis SJ842-GLX & SJ843-IMX blanks.

My 9' spinning rod has 8 guides plus tip and the measurments are from center of reel seat to first guide = 24.5", 13.5", 11.75", 10.5", 9", 6", 5", 4.5" Tip.
I spent a lot of time with this and still don't know if it is correct BUT this IMX rod casts like a rocket.
Does the distance from the reel to the first guide, a 25mm, seem to much & TIA?
