151. G2 vs CFX grips
I have a Sage gear blank from the 90's still in its original shipping tube and am looking for a grip for it. I would like to build it for drift fishing and want the grips that will offer the most sensitivity (in theory). Assuming that a Light weight Carbon fiber grip is the best option, how do these 2 compare?

Roger,
I think my troubles may be stemming from trying to keep the brush away from the leg of the guide. I was watching YouTube and they were letting the brush bump into the leg which was essentially getting finish to the top side of the guide wrap. I have been painstakingly stopping my dryer and carefully trying to add fish to either side of the leg and not letting the brush touch it.....ends u

Roger,
Are you adding finish to the top of the guide foot and letting it seep in, or are you actually brushing it into the tunnel where the guide foot creates the gap?

All,
I'm new to building, but have put together a few rods and have consistently had troubles applying finish around the stem of the guide and into the guide tunnel. How do you all do it? I've flirted with the idea of using a syringe with a small tube or large guage needle to fill the airspace and give a bit of a build up around the guide stem. Possibly giving it. Bit of time to cure, then doing

155. Re: small rod guides
I used magic thread near the base of the guide eye. Works great on micro guides as well. Cheaper than those rubber bands and can still move guides around after wrapping on.

I used magic thread. A quick wrap in approximation to where you want it, easy to get lined up. Then you wrap up to where the magic thread starts, cut that off and finish up. Or hit up your local orthodontist and buy the bands from them.....same things that Mudhole sells.

All,
I've settled on a blank, now for guides. What do you all usually use for guides? Light duty double foots? Single foots? This will be a casting layout.
Much thanks,

Oh I get that. But in a world where you cant really handle these blanks, it is hard to know where to start.

What would qualify as a durable drift rod? Do they make compositions blanks that fit the bill?

Octopus hooks for drifting eggs/cookies. I'll be getting in touch with Lami today, but am curious of other options as well.

Any thoughts on this one? Looking to build a rod for Chinook fishing around Or/Wa. I've looked at Lami......they seem well priced, but not sure what blanks would be ideal. Any other ideas on blanks for drift fishing for Chinook from other MFGs?
Best,

I just recieved my CRB Gator Glass blank and am happy with the action. Might look at their fresh water E-glass blanks or the light version of their Gator Glass line.

Bob,
Is there a noticable difference in action? Is thr gator blank whippy and overly soft in the tip like an Uguly Stick?

Hello all,
I've been doing some research on some possible blanks for a jetty rod and ran across these 2 lines on Mudhole. They are both supposedly very durable Glass rods. But what is the difference between the 2? And for Rock Fish/Small lings on HUGE rough jetties is there somthing better?
This will be my first build so I don't want it to be a pricey blank.I will be fishing with various metho

Not to hi jack the thread. But what weight e glass rod would make an effective casting rod for jetty fishing (rock bass, small ling cod etc) using lead head jigs with grubs? I was thinking about using one of the value e glass rods from CRB amd extending it to 9 feet as it would possibly be used for light surf work and light plunking. Would be casting in the 1/2 -2 ounce range for jetty/surf and l

Good day all,
I found a glass blank (possibly s-glass) that my grandfather purchased in the early to mid 1990's. It is unsanded (has rings or ridges in it), high gloss black, 10ft 2 piece and was marked with 'SG1207'. The shipping tube said it came from clearwater products (and the address points to Clearwater Florida). He tied several up as bank/plunking rods for Chinook Salmon and they work gr

K guides ordered, now deciding on butt length and reel seat. I currently have an older fuji trigger grip, but I am not sure if I want a trigger. I currently have a Penn Prevail 10ft and like the butt length alot but I had a local rod builder doing his bet to talk me out of anything over 20 inches.

Those guides seem pretty gimmicky, i'll keep researching them though.
How heavy are those grips compared to EVAs or cord? Im half tempted to run a thin eva ramp into the reel seat and something similar on the butt them covering the whole butt including ramps in heat shrink. I want somthing light and durabile.

I only mentioned the reel as it sits closer to the blank than a standard round reel. Is his tied as a casting or spin rod?

Hello all,
I found a stash of blanks squirreled away in my Grandfather's stuff, and one of those blanks was a Seeker SU 100L 10 foot 2 piece rod. It seems that this blank is labeled as Medium Light 2-4 OZ 12-20 Surf Blank. I want to tie this into a beach rod for Surf Perch, and am looking for some advice on guide type, spacing and handle materialn It will be paired with an Akios 651 Shuttle conv
