As Mark said, I think I read something about 4 reduction guides on UL and extra long rods.

They’re the best guides available, lightweight and strong. Not sure if a human could tell any difference in sensitivity, technically they should be more sensitive… lightweight and a harder ring material. I’ve noticed that braided line is a bit louder as it runs through the Torzite ring.

The Torzite ring material is thinner than Alconite or SIC. I would (without measuring) think that inner diameter of a size 4 Torzite Is about the same as a size 5 Alconite or SIC. I typically use Fuji Alconite rings and haven’t had any issues. The Fuji info I shared accounts for the use of their Torzite rings so the sizing would differ for Alconite, Fazlite, or Sic rings.

The specs I’ve shared are for Fujj Torzite rings, if you use fazlite I’d use size 5 running guides.

Finally finished epoxy… I was playing with adding some colors but ultimately decided to keep it monochromatic.

Once you get the butt guide in the correct position the other reduction guides should be lined up in a straight line, like a bullseye.

The amount of guides recommended for KR Concept for any rod is the length +1. A 6’ rod recommendation would be 7 guides + tiptop, but of course only use what’s needed.

2) Temporarily determine the position of the belly guide After temporarily attaching the top guide, temporarily determine the position of the belly guide approximately in the middle between the butt guide and the top guide.
3) Determine the position of the 2nd and 3rd choke guides Place the 2nd and 3rd choke guides in good balance on the straight line that connects the ring center of the 1st cho

1) Determine the position of the butt guide (1st choke guide)
The "KR Concept" butt guide is a super high frame type to avoid line slap, and the ring position is higher than the conventional butt guide, so the mounting position is different from the "New Guide Concept". First, determine the number of guides to be used and the total number of guides, keeping in mind that line

This is a link to Fuji’s KR Concept.
This helps with determining the guides to choose according to the type/size of line you’ll use.

If my calculations are correct… cut it down so the reel is 24” from the butt.
What you’ll need…
Saw (preferably a sawzall)
Tarps
Bleach
50 gallon drum
Muriatic acid
Gloves
Goggles (for safety)
Ruler
Marker
Lay out tarps, measure the length, mark it, cut it. Fold the mess up in tarps, dissolve in acid, bleach the area clean. Hope this helps.

I guess your too busy to look at Fuji’s chart… What size line are you planing to use? Braid to leader?

That blank would work perfect. Revelation blanks are really nice, they have a nice finish and the ones I’ve built on are impressively straight.

Love it! I’m ignorant to real world red fishing experience… I’ve only caught 2 so your helping me learn.

Thank you for the recommendations, I’ll start looking into some of these blanks. I didn’t think about how much a rod gets abused in a kayak.
The Vanford is definitely a contender for reel choices. I love the Ci4’s I have and couldn’t imagine the Vanford being any less pleasing to fish with.

To add I’ll probably buy him a 3000 size reel or equivalent… keeping it light.

I’m wanting to build a nice redfish spinning rod for the brother-in-law’s retirement from the Navy. From what I’ve gathered online about redfish rods they use 7 to 7’6” medium/fast action rods. He fishes the Charleston SC and plans to stay in that area after retiring. I know he fishes from a pedal kayak and mainly uses artificial lures (I think he uses casting spoons). Anyone who has a favorite r

I was thinking the same thing Michael is saying. I haven’t use the winn grips, but the old Shimano Stradic FI grips would break down they would say it was because of sunscreen.
