Well thats disheartening lol.. Thanks though guys.. This is why i come here.. I just dont get how the fenwick has such a braod range for weight.. And ive put that rod through its paces.. It can handle larger lures.. And still sling light tackle verry well..
I have to agree with you on the fenwick being lighter powered too.. I just wish you could get the blanks they use..

That was.. Acually alot of fun.. Lol i put my tica ss500 on it.. Barely fit the reel seat.. Didnt hook up with anything.. Had alot of follows and hits... Saw a 30" grass carp.. Even though i was using a bluefox gold i had to try.. Of coarse he wasnt interested, but the pickrel i didnt notice was lol.. Getting hookups seems a bit hard.. I might just try the rod geeks blank made for it

It definatly does.. I guess what im kinda shooting for is to see what a noodle rod is like.. Ive never used one.. And understand this is going to be a fairly bad example, unless i strip and fully rework the entire thing..
Basically an experiment.. I have a guy who wants prices for a 7, 9 and 10 foot noodle rod.. I need a solid understanding of what im building before i jump into it.. Im the ki

Well, i think im going to give it a few cast as is.. See if its even worth the effort... I can still try and sell it.. More cash to build better rods lol..
But yeah ill give it a swing or 2 today.. I think it will still be to long for where i fish..
I wish the river would drop some.. We have had 45" of rain already this year.. Pennsylvania's average is 40" per year.. The waters

Im not really that experienced enough to answer this question, but i have to say one of the rods i built is also with the aero, and cfx grips.. And oddly enough, i also put my hand above the reel.. But i put mine on standard, or downlocking.. And its very nice.. One of the best grips ive felt so far.. I used the microwave line control system too.. Helps with line slap i feel.. I used the 2 1/2&qu

Ok.. So, first off, i both spin fish and fly fish.. For fly fishing i use my 7'6" 4-5wt. Perfect for the areas i go.. So this isnt going to be screwing uo something i use..
When i first started fly fishing i bought a cabelas three forks 9' 8wt combo.. Its acually what i learned to cast on (i think my shoulder is still sore lol) i got invited to go up to polaski with a few people i knew..

It really is a no brainer... Just convincing the wife is pure rocket science... My side work just slowed down, so cash flow for anything but bills is hard to come by.. Atleast in her eyes lol

I think im going to look onto northfolk composites.. Thier website isnt phone friendly.. So ill have to wait to look on my pc..
I really do like rainshadow, but theres 1 dealer about 100 miles away.. And they seem to cater more towards the fly rod end..
Thanks for the input guys.. Ill post when i get more accurate specs.. Then make a selection, see what you guys think.. All of you have mo

Alright.. Ill re-wrap the guides.. I only have shades of dark red and greys.. Silver and red metallic.. No CP, so the wraps will be dark no matter what i do, grey with red metallic should work ok.. You guys are right though.. If i really do love the rod, i need to take care of it..
Are you guys able to see those pictures? Want to make sure that option for uploading will work for future refere

I agree.. And i will.. He owns a tackle shop oddly enough.. He wants these rods after seeing my last one.. And he said he will gladly carry them in his shop.. Yay me.. But yeah.. I definatly need more info.. This i know.. But being he owns a shop, he can run whatever his heart desires... I told him i need a reel to match to the rods.. He likes the idea of the microwave guide system..

Not that old.. Like 2010.. Its probably nylon.. Its a fenwick.. If you have seen my other posts, its my 6'9" fenwick EliteTech Smallmouth.. I really do love the rod.. And honestly will end up rewrapping everything.. Eventually... Im honestly a little scared to attack something like that.. I cant get pictures online right now, i dont have any social media accounts.. When i do get a pic online

I hate when people calls things by slang terms... Ill check that section out thanks guys.. So if someone asked for a noodle rod, what would you guys look for blank wise.. I read the discription.. Was basically exactly what i already knew.. As for calling it a fly rod with a spin reel, i can see that.. But how would you go about selecting a blank?

So one guy asked if i can price out a 7, 9 and 10' noodle rod.. Something with a small diameter but, hes going to be using them in the inlets and smaller creeks by a bay i guess... Im assuming somewhere around the new york/new jersey area.. He said hes looking for something that has alot of play, good casting, but can handle something fairly big, since he will be near the bay.. Hes looking for me

Hey guys, just started cleaning my rods.. (Starting to feel lost without a rod to build, hoping this will help give me a fix with the new "addiction" lol)
I noticed i have some cracking starting on one of my fenwick spinning rod.. The large guide has more of a seperation issue then a cracking i guess.. Looks like due to stress.. That rods been used verry hard..

You sound alot like me lol..
Ive built 2 rods so far, my first was a 150$ mudhole.com kit that included a wrapper and rod with split grip handle, good rod for what it is, i wish i would have gotten onto this forum and picked brains before jumping into it..
My second rod i wanted to make something a little more tailored to slinging in line spinners, i opted for MHX, blank is a reasonable pr

If you need to wash feathers, hit them with a jet of steam, it relaxs the babules and allows the feather to go back to its natural shape.. Trick i learned from making flies.. Best way it to boil water in a small pot, make a kettle spout with tin foil, works well.. You have to wash hackles that arent store bought.. Get the greese out...
The steaming process is used by alot in making salmon flie

Alright.. So.. I made the mistake of showing my mother some of the feather inlays on the photos section..
My question.. How do you guys go about applying them? Do the oils in the feathers need to be washed out first? Do you guys coat with colorfast to assure the epoxy doesnt fisheye? Is that even a concern? Lol as you can tell, i have no idea where to begin.. But luckily im a fly tyer, so i h

I would say that using the extra precaution just ensures the rods you build are "that much better," the ones that have been made without the precautionary measures from what ive read, and minimal knowledge of stress on multiple diffrent types of materials, should be perfecty fine under normal use.. I would think a failure would happen elseware before the grips failing due to stress poin

We fish basically the same setups, 2 medium splits, #4 standard baitholder hook, barbless.. Earthworms.. Both use 6lb mono.. I use spiderwire ezmono, he prefers trilene smooth casting.. Nothing fancy, but boy do we get alot of fish every year.. We rock fully dressed in line spinners as well.. (Being a fly tyer, i cant help but make the things look like a work of art lol) we call ourselves trout f

I think in most applications it wouldnt be a problem.. With my situation, i got pre made split grips, they melted them down to a ring that was the exact to slightly smaller then my blank.. I scratched the blank putting them on.. In theory it makes sence and i feel its worth the precaution..
As an example, to break a glass tube, and im talking for glass work, not rods.. However more brittle, y
