Is there an issue trying to "copy" a weave displayed on the photo page, by trying to figure out the pattern using the picture and ms excel for example?

Maybe all those spirals g-loomis pulled because they werent selling in 1983-84 are still kicking around for general distribution. I just saw that TV add for the rediculous "rocket fishing rod"...too bad those "energies" werent spent on educating people on spirals, instead.

I still struggle with some of the theory, but know that in use that I like the performance of the spiral better; and after one year, I even think it looks, well, BETTER!

Ok, that helped a lot with whether the line is pushed or pulled. Great examples.
I build only spirals on my casting rods and love 'em as well...but I guess I'm not understanding why, well enough. I get the whole twist and torque thing, I think. But what I'm still struggling with describing is the concept that the line path is the same and "straight" on both setups, esp. since we ca

I'm pretty sure I've seen the technicals of the subject discussed in detail on this site, but I cant seem to be able to find them very easily. Anyone know where or how I might find them? I'm looking for a good description of the differences in effects on the casting distance between a conventional setup vs a (simple) spiral wrap , due to the different line paths, etc.
Also, when casting, is th

Thanks. This customer really wants a short 6' rod. I assembled a list from the sponsors sites and found the St Croix model SC-2C60MHF, a 6' rated for 10-20 lb. line and 3/8 - 1 oz lure, MH Fast, Bass/Pike/Saltwater at mudhold that seems to possibly fit the bill. It seems to have a beey enough butt compared to others of the same length/rating on the list I assembled; and this one is on special t

Ops...I just noticed the earlier post on "Ultralight 'casting' blank" that is generating some suggestion that might do the trick. Thanks.

Looking for a one piece 6' blank for a fast, MH, 14 lb Line, bait casting rod that the user will use mostly for tossing frogs and rats into weeds for largemouths. I'm a bit nervous about picking the right blank for such a small/light rod for this use as I would normally use something larger. any suggestions?

252. Re: Have you ever
Even worse, I remember reading a thread of the rodcrafting forum about rod twisting. I never saw the conclusion on it unfortunately, just that tops on rods that had been perfectly aligned were no longer perfectly aligned and more than just a few folks reported similar observations.

I have only limited (1.5 years) experience so take this for what its worth. I went to a Woodcraft to buy a Rikon, and was shown one they use for classes. Was told by another customer that it was awful, noisey, etc and required more maintenance than say a Delta or Jet.
I also visited a Rockler store and saw a model that they make, that looks just like a Jet.

I think Andy said it best when he said "ThreadMaster offers a lot of advancements over FlexCoat, but it does have very slightly different working properties, and you have to be willing to make slight adjustments to take advantage of all it has to offer. " I tried TM for the first time during the summer the day after using Flexcoat and got different results, more bubbles..nearly the sam

Actually, wasnt Billy one of the D-E-V-O band members? For me, TM seems to hold more bubbles longer than others and so requires more attention - flaming the stuff always concerned me, so I don't do it much. Maybe I needed to experiment more with TM. Thanks to an ensuing epoxy rash, however, I'm switching to PG for the thread finish. Now if only I can find an alternate to the Rod Bond amines as we

Pearl-Ex is awesome stuff. I've achieved a nice tint, albeit somewhat "opaque", but havent been able to get the deep rich colorations I can get with (the stringy snotty acrylics I like so much) without screwing up the cure or adhesion with too much of the stuff. An underwrap of the right color helps, but sometimes thats not an option. I've got some TAP pigments as well, but havent found

Most folks hate acrylics due to what they say is a stringy snottyness consistency. I've prefer the acrylics for the colors and enjoy how they work. Different strokes.

I'm trying to determine the optimum lenght of an insert for a skeleton seat. So, I've got the parts temporarily secured to the rod. I tighten the hood nut until I get a nice snug fit of the hood over the foot of the reel. The hood slides up and over the insert and foot to the point where I could, depening on the length of my insert, have only 2 or 3 threads engaged by the hood nut. Is that suffic

There may have been low counts from MA., but I might have spent more per capita for the whole state just because I drove down (rather than train or plane) and therefor could manage a truck load in savings for the return. For some reason the wife is worried about a repeat performance next year lol.

Thanks guys. Yes, this is a freshwater bass rod, an amtak AMSP784-2 matrix blank. Actually, I got 2 of these blanks, and on one of them a 6.5 tube fits perfectly...the other is just a tad too big, creating my little dilema. Its advertised as having a size 6 tip.

267. Tip-Top Ring Size
I've always made a point to have a tip top with the same size ring as the smallest guide. I'm not sure if I picked this up reading something somewhere or not. Is it necessary? I'm having problems finding a black alconite top with the same size ring AND with a tube size that will fit the blank . The ring is size 6 and the tube needs to be 7 or 7.5......6.5 is the largest tube size I can find with

In addition to the 1/10 HP motor I have a 1/4 hp motor. I set it up so I can switch pretty easily. I mostly use the 1/4 HP motor now for turning handles, including light wood and acrylics, etc. No complaints here yet, though I wonder if the stock is going to weaken over time with the bigger motor.
I also had rigged up a vacuum attach, but it would be nice if there was a fitted acc

A few modifications I've noted:
1) Michael Joyce posted a pic once of a mod to the thread carriage with a guide attached to the front of the lathe, so that the thread could be routed under and up to the rod instead of over and down...for weaving. Would be very nice if the unit had this capability.
2) Italo Busi posted a pic once of a mod to the thread carriage to accomodate larger spools of

I like to minimize the amount or arbor/shimming used. Good point on the hand size. I was building small for kids, but I guess a bit larger wont be bad they could grow into it.
