I've found casting seats as low as 10mm for light rods, but I can't find a spinning reel seat with an 11mm ID...the smallest I can find is 16mm. Any ideas?

A single ring of cork sanded down to "button" size, as close to the dia as the reel seat as possible.

RBO Glossary: Hosel. Used to finish off the forward edge of a rod foregrip. Similar to a cap with a hole bored in the end for the rod blank to pass through. Mostly of a decorative nature. MARRIAM-WEBSTERS dictionary: Hosel. a socket in the head of a golf club into which the shaft is inserted

I was wondering the same thing. I assume it would point down. I like the look. Combining the triangular grip with the triangular alps reel seat would seem unique.

Are you saying that that plug in the butt end is a graphit ferrule? The tip end doesnt seem to be anything other than blank ...the wall is no thicker than it is on the butt end of the rod. Thanks.

Some day I'm gonna make a two piece from a one piece blank. For now, however, I've bought a 2-piece blank. Until now, I've only owned and buit one piece rods. I've got an old scrap 2-piece rod that I got for .25 cents at a yard sale for comparison, but is has metal ferrules. The tip end of the 2-piece blank that I bought fits over the but end, over-lapping by about about 2.25 inches, and is just

Maybe it depends on the type of rods you are talking about. There was an article on bass rods that said "I've seen some beautiful wood and EVA work on bass rods, but serious bass guys will not use them". It was written by someone who was a builder and competitive bass tournament angler in a well known publication. I've seen a lot of similar opinions on here, which might offer some reaso

@#$%& is one of the sponsors. I've done plenty of my own grips - I just cant tell if the nut for this seat is available separate or attached to a foregrip.

I noticed this kit at @#$%& that includes a FG27C 2-1/2" Cork Foregrip, HPS17N Quicklock Foregrip Nut, and TCSM17/B 17mm Reel Seat Body....[]. Does anyone know...is the foregrip attached to the nut, or could I turn my own foregrip (in favor of say burnt burl from lamar) and attach?

I see them on internet @#$%& occasionally, as recent as last week. I got the impression that the guides were mounted to a rubber/band/oring type sleeve and held on by compression not friction but I'm probably mistaken. Anyway, internet @#$%& are the only place I've seen them.

It seems to me that spinning rods are built on blanks with a larger dia. butt than those used for casting rods built of the same length and action for the same lure wt, line wt and purpose? Do spinning rods inherently require more power ?

Ok, I want to try my hand now a making a 2-piece rod. All I've done prior to this are one piece rods. I've collected my issues of RM 4.4, 5.2, 5.3, and 6.1. Are there others issues or articles specific to ferrules or 2-piece rods? Any other tips you can offer me here? Thanks

I read in a recent article that the idea that a knife with a blood groove, blood runs through the blood groove and breaks the suction, so the knife can be withdrawn with less difficulty is myth. That the blood groove or fuller as its called on a sword has structural purpose to actually lighten and stiffen the blade. I'll see if I can find the article. I didnt draw a possible application to rod bu

I'll second what Grant Darby said above...welcome to the board Cody. Keep posting. I've been on internet forums back before there was any such term for an internet forum, or chat room, etc. and this is one of the most popluar things that happens...people can't see or hear tones here, just text, and reactions on both sides seem a whole lot different than they might otherwise seem in person and

I added a dab of pearl-ex white pigment to some permagloss to tint it, and applied to a scrap blank section yesterday. Today it looks great, but is tacky. It shouldnt be by now, ~20 hours later, should it? Was the pearl-ex pigment a bad choice, because its powdered, maybe 'cause of the heat? I've used pearl-ex on a number of marble jobs ok. I still have yet to try the pigments from the botto

Nordic brand ski poles also feature "air-foam grips" ...dunno if its the same material discussed in the above article, but they do feel good to me and they are at Ski Market. It might be possible to pop em off the ski poles, reshape 'em, and arbor 'em if need be for thinner rods, and try it out. Not a recommendation, not even a suggestion, just an observation so dont blame me!

Thanks, I'll try that. I hope I didnt come across as knocking TM. I'm not to used to it yet, obviously, and on top of that I'm trying this w/s decal thing for the 1st time as well. So just asking a bunch of dumb questions that I shoulda probably asked before diving into it and making a bunch of dumb mistakes on an otherwise nice rod. Thanks for all the help. As per usual, you and RBO and RM are v

Well don't I feel like a dope. I was following the article in RM to apply the decal, which obviously wasnt based on using such a fast curing finish as TM since it calls for wating 24 hrs after microset before overcoating....I've already let the TM cure 24 hours. ...since I run the risk of "...the second coat not stickin .." by waiting yet another 24 hours for the decal adhesive to cure

Well, I applied TM yesterday morning. It reached ~100F here yesterday, about ~80F in the shop. The stuff left in the mixing cup seemed cured this mornining, but...poking it with a toothpick left only a slight indentation with hardly any depth at all - I've noticed on prior applications of TM that it takes 2-3 days before I cant get any indentation (with a non-calibration toothpick push test). I'm really curious about "...epoxy pentration through the threads was fully adhered to the blank...Yet easily removed with light heat ...". In an earlier post, I think by Bill Stevens, I think it was mentioned that removal was not easy. I dont recall if heat was used but as I recall, CP was NOT used. Did you use CP on these?

Timing is everything, after health that is. There was an earlier thread on humidity, moisture intrusion and discussion of extending the finish over the edge of wraps and into the tunnels of guide wraps. This had me wondering if the surface needed to be scuffed to ensure that the area that extended over the edge of the wraps, or in the tunnels, provided a seal that wouldnt otherwise break-free (a
