No camper shell. Do have a hard tonneau cover over the bed. Don't want to mount anything on that. I have several pvc tubes made up to transport rods. Looking for a rack for rod and reels so I can transport rigged setups. Along the bed walls is the most out of the way. Looked at the foam insert horizontal wall mount. Would have to figure a way to mount them. Not a fan of having the weight of the r

Looking for some ideas for rod rack for transporting rods. Downsized and upsized my truck. Got a smaller cab so just tossed in the cab transport is no longer an option. But got a long enough bed that I can know transport rods straight instead of corner to corner. Ideally I would like something that will hold two maybe three rods on the bed walls over the wheel wheels. Possibly something magnetic

Yep I share your frustration. I hate calling anyone any more. More often than not you get someone that can't help you. Seems like everyone lives on their phones nowadays even at work on nonwork stuff. Really you can't take a few minutes every couple hours to check emails. I try and do all my communications via email. Like having a written record of what was said or not said. Has come in handy mor

I much prefer Hitena thread. Have had issues with breaking prowrap. Can run the same tension on similar rods and one color will do a whole rod with out issue, next color will break five or six times before I figure out how to work with that particular spool. Have not had one breakage with hitena on about a dozen rods. I use color preserver on all my rods. I got rods twenty plus years old that loo

I tend to go with whatever bushing is a touch sloppy. Then use some narrow tape to make a couple bands over the bushing, usually about a 1/4 of the way in from each end. Just want to create a tight spot to line things up nice. Then a good coat of rod bond takes care of any play along the length of the bushing.

Mark is correct in his interpretation. Rod is going to be exclusively for small cranks and swimbaits. As I figured can't go wrong with any if the current Fuji offerings. Had the guide train pretty much figured as the guide sizes suggested are basically what I have been using with the minimas. One question on the runner sizing. Do the rings run smaller than the minmas? Minimas have no insert wher

Been years since I used anything by Fuji. Since I got back into things a couple years ago I tried Pac Bay minimas and really really liked them. All my rods have been built with them. Was after the least weight and most sensitive rod I could get. The minimas have held up great surprised actually as they look a little fragile. Build I am planning might see some harder use and sensitivity and finess

I use a lot of hitena thread. They offer a lot of size B which I really like. I was out of building for awhile and last used Gudebrod size A exclusively. For me the size B hitena is the closest thing I have found to the Gudebrod. It is slightly larger but all the characteristics I was used to with the Gudebrod seem to be more present in the hitena than any other thread.

Going to try the RX7 as well as a CTS. Be itching to try a CTS figure this is a good a time as any.

I am thinking for the money I can't go wrong trying the RX7.Russ unfortunately "getting lost" does not happen on a regular enough basis. But I do my best to make in a priority when time allows. Just glad I have figured out how important it is to me. Minimas are my go to guides. I am fairly picky about balance point. I will build the rod to the reel and get the balance perfect from the

Russ typing same time as you. Tempted by the RX7. Just wonder if fast action is a good idea with cranks and swimbaits. But for 25 bucks it might be worth trying. Other one is leaning heavier than I want.

I have a RX6 travel rod. It is the SB720-4. Actually built two of them. Like them for what they are. They are however a very heavy feeling blank and way more power than the rating and faster. A 1pc SB720 might be a touch slower but really think I want a bit more moderate action. The other option in RX6 is the SP721. This blank give me the mod action but other the power ratings fall under what I

No problem I do the same with numbers, easy to flip them. The 6 6 air looks real nice. Maybe a touch heavy on the power, but I have never run one of their blanks so unsure exactly what to expect from their ratings. If they got something similar to that or touch lighter in 6 foot it would be just the ticket.

Spencer that's my main reason for turning to this type of fishing. Not about the fish as much these days. More about getting lost. Any thoughts on some of fiberglass blanks or high content glass blends.

Herb do you think I could lose six inches off the butt of the CTS blank without too much impact. Six foot is about the most I want to go, even that is a little tight in some of the streams I fish. Michael any hands on experience with the Rainshadow? Even the lighter one is a little more power than I was thinking. Also I have yet to build a Rainshadow recently that did not seems to run heavie

I need another rod. Well not really but want to build another lure specific trout rod. Here is the situation. Stream trout probable 12 to 15 inch fish but potential of a 24 plus brown. Getting into the bigger bait bigger fish mindset and fishing non traditional stream baits. Looking to get into using more small crankbaits and swimbaits. Baits up to about 3/8 ounce three to four inches. I have som

Paste epoxy think dry wall compound. Gel think wheel bearing grease.

All good advice. Keep in mind the epoxy will act as a lubricant and your tight fit might feel a little sloppy when it comes time to line everything up. Should not require any arbor or bushing. I like to glue up in stages so I have something solid to to back the reelseat up to. In your case I would glue up the rear grip and let cure then glue up the reelseat. Find it much easier to manage only one

Regardless of the need or lack of need for ferrule wrap I always wrap them. Nice to have a "stop" for your fingers to push against when you assembly the rod. Ferrule wrap and finish gives just enough of a high spot to push against.

What do you consider a set? I have some new old stock fuji single foots. These were from the days of cone of flight setups. Give me some sizes and quantities your looking for and I will check my stash.

Fore and aft easy movement I am ok with, the paste type epoxy will take care of that. If there is noticeable left to right movement I worry about alignment. If that is the case I make a very thin tape bushing mid reelseat with arbors fore and aft of that. The tape bushing will be snug but not tight. Just tight enough to eliminate any slop and keep the reelseat concentric until the epoxy dries..

If you like the Eternity have you given any thought to having it painted. Backbone custom rods can do nearly any color you want as well as some patterns. Very high quality work.

Another lesson I have learned the hard way more than once is to just leave things along. More often than not if I try to fix something little and nearly unnoticeable it turns into something big and ugly that a blind man could see. Hardest thing to learn in any craft is sometimes you have to accept good enough.

I have taken this to an extreme. I fish a lot of very small streams in northern Wisconsin for brook trout. I am a spinner and bait guy. Fly fishing would limit you to seriously about ten percent of the streams.Have several general use rods. I could do most everything fairly well with them. However I have built rods that only get used on one or two specific streams with a single technique. I built

Thanks for the replies. Figured it would fall into the probable don;t make a difference do what you want category like so many things in rodbuilding. I am leaning towards 5s. Roger brought up something I forgot about COTTON WOOD FLUFF. I hate that crap. I am building new UL for bedding bluegills for next spring. Got the reduction train all wrapped. Was going to to wrap the runners this weekend.
