Neither the 20mm or 24mm bottle cap inserts fit the Thread Master bottles I use.

I live in the Deep South on the water, it’s always humid. However I don’t have any humidity related problems with ThreadMaster or for that matter any other other finish epoxy. I never gave humidity a second thought.

2044. Re: Fuji Guides
Jim, you are personally responsible for the popularity of the KR concept in the US. You have gone out of your way to show people how to group and set up the guides for a Fuji KR concept rods. With out you no one would understand the concept. A lot of people do not know you were personally responsible for setting the KR GPS and the NGC GPS. Thank you for all of your hard work.

The PB701MF is also my favorite inshore rod. It’s just a great all around rod, spinning or casting.

Jim, read your blog when it first came out, loved it! To those who have not tried the KR concept, give it a try. You will find it a real performance enhancer.

Most the people I build for want KR concept spinning or casting rods. I rarely use runners larger than size 5.5. Mostly use size 4.5, then size 5 and 4. Size 6 runners look huge to me, and at one time they were the smallest I used. Once I tried the KR concept I never looked back. I really don’t think most rod manufacturers and many custom rod builders really understand the KR concept. I have retr

2051. Re: Fuji Guides
What parameters did you put in the KR GPS? For a 1000 to 3000 series reel with 4 -10 lb test mono or up to 20 lb test braid, the KRGPS will not recommend a size 25 H reduction train guides, it would only recommend the size 20H reduction train if you are using a larger reel or heavier line. If you are using a larger reel and/or heavier line then go ahead and use the 20H based reduction train, it

2052. Re: Fuji Guides
Fuji guides are excellent. For a 6’6” Light power rod I would suggest using a KR concept set up, which works wonderfully well with light line.
This concept uses high frame small ring reduction (KL-H) guides to effectively control and rapidity choke the line coils to low profile running guides (KB and KT guides) The reduction guides are grouped by height, and are dependent on the reel and line

You don’t need to pour that much out. It only takes a small amount, and the small foam brush should suck it all up without any left behind. One loaded brush can coat several handles with no problem.

I do like the flexible black vinyl winding checks and keep a good supply of different sizes on hand. Janns Netcraft sells them for 30 cents each. Get several different sizes to fit the blanks you normally use.

I think the major advantage of using a high frame stripper guide on a fly rod is if you wanted it to serve a dual purpose for both spinning and fly fishing. From my limited experience a spinning rod works better as a fly rod then a fly rod works as a spinning rod. A Tennessee handle makes the switch possible. If you just want a fly rod build it as a fly rod, using traditional snake or single foo

Over a year ago a friend broke a NFC MB705HM rod I built for him the first time he used it. It took multiple E-mails and phone calls but they finally responded, and replaced the blank free of charge. It took over 4 months to finally get the blank. It was a long wait!

Yes David is correct, I don’t coat the CFX grips with epoxy nor do I sand the grips. I just coat them with Permagloss as they come just to give them some sheen. I like a little texture to the grip rather than being smooth, but that’s just me. You can coat them any way you want to get the effect your are looking for. In fact, you don’t even have to coat them with anything, a lot of people prefer t

No, just apply the Permagloss as shown in the video. The CFX grip is ready to coat. It is very easy to do and looks great. . If you don’t have a lathe you can chuck you mandrel into a cordless drill, or even use a 20 rpm drying motor. Very difficult to screw up.

Are you talking about scratches in the reel seat or the fore grip? Casting or spinning grip? Moveable hood side or fixed hood side? Fore grips for the SK2 seats are either EVA or cork and don’t get sharp edges when scratched, so I suspect it’s the reel seat you are talking about. Let us know so we have a little more information to help you.

The RodGeeks X-Comps are a good choice, plus you can get them in any color you want.

A number of serious catfish fishermen really like the RodGeeks X-Comp blanks. For what you are looking for, try either the XC732 or XC733. They are 7’3”” but can easily be cut to 7’ by taking 3” off the butt.

2064. Re: Guide advice
If you like the Airwaves, you’ll love the the PaxBay Minima guides. For spinning rods the Minima match (M) and fly (F) guides are set up exactly the same way as the Fuji KR spinning guides. For the reduction train the M guides are grouped very similar to the KL-H guides, for example, 16M stripper with 8M, and 5M reduction guides; or 20M stripper, with 10M, and 5 M (or 6M); or 25M with 12M and 6M.

The one drive link is Gib Portwood’s link. He started to develop a CCS data a few years ago, but it really didn’t go any where but it does have the published CCS data for the few companies that did them. It also has a calculator for determining ERN from IP values and vice versa. Wish there was more CCS data on other blanks currently being sold.
