Tom, If you are using 17 # test line you might want to use #30 guide for the butt and # 20 for the 2nd and #12 then # 10s for the running guides. See how that works. I hesitate to give you advice because I'm a little new with this NGC System myself. But I've done alot of reading and people have helped me down this road on my rods that I've done. Hope tis helps. Don't forget the stress test.

I just finished a rod using Madiera. Like everyone else I used CP and had no trouble with it. I put 2 coats on. I like the thread and will use it again.

That is ingenious. Now I'll have to figure out how I'm going to put an arm on mine.
Thanks

Darby, If you do a stadic test you might get rid of a guide or two. I just did a 9' spining rod and used 11 guides not including the tip top. I might have gotten by with 10 but I didn't want to take a chance for what I'm using that rod for.

Don't know, but I've got 6 used bottles of the new stuff that I probably will never open. I switched to Diamondite CP and really like it.

I just used some TM lite. How long do I wait between coats ? Can I put the TM high build over this within reasonable amount of time without it messing up the TM lite ? I'm using this on feather inlay. I did a search didn't really tell me anything. If anybody else has any experience let me now.
Thanks Terry

William,
I'd use the mandrels. You get a lot straighter handel than making them on the rod.

Rick,
I have two Renzettis. One for wrapping and one for turning cork handels. They are good quality lathes. When I got interested in this stuff I was thinking like you," Why waste my money on something that I might upgrade in a year or two. So I bought the Renzettis. I have been very happy with them. I got a few accessories along with the lathes. One was the laser sight, Bought it, tried

Darby, I'm just about to finish a 9ft Rainshadow spinning rod with a Shamino Stradic 4000 reel with 14 to 17 # test line. The rod balanced out with a 11 1/4 inch rear cork grip which just reaches my elbow. I going to use this rod to fish for channel cat so I 'll be holding it alot. With the help of Tom K. and some others I used the New Guide Concept System. I also did a stress test and I ended u

Mike,
Burl is fine but I can tell the difference in weight between the two. I buy and in the process of buying Andy's Exotic Burl in rings and in the stripes but its nice to hold a good cork handel.

Thanks everyone.
Tom, I got Vol 2 on CD a couple of weeks ago and haven't had time to look at it. Guess I'll take time to look at it now. I also got RodMaker in the mail today so I don't know what to look at first. It might be one of those sleepless nights.
Thanks

165. Feather Inlay help
I just got the guts to try a feather inlay. I tried a couple of peacock feathers using Diamond CP and It turned the feathers really dark. My question is will the clear epoxy finish bring back the color in the feathers or do I need to find another CP ? The tutorials that I have read use 811 but that's the old stuff not the new. From what I have read about the new 811 I don't really want to try it.

Thanks Tom, I'm going to be using 17lb mono so I think I'll try the #30 and see what happens. I'm looking forward to the next issue of RodMaker to futher my education. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to walk me through this. I'm going to go back to all the material that I've read and see if I can't get it to soak in alittle more. Thanks again.

Thanks Tom for tutoring me. Will this change the size of the butt guide or do I stay with the #25 ? If I stay with the #25 then that will push the guide quite a bit farther from the reel. I have a #30. What do you think ?

Tom,
The outside diameter of the reel spool face is 45.88 mm.

Tom,
The distance between the reel face and the choke guide is 44 inches. It might take 3 guides. I guess I still don't know what I'm doing. From the face to the butt guide is 22.5 inchs, from the butt guide to the #2 guide is 11.75 inches and from the #2 guide to the choke guide is 9.75 inches.

Thanks Tom,
I think I've got it. I'm going to play around with it just alittle bit more this evening. I was looking to take out a guide or two, but unless I'm doing something wrong on the stress test I don't think I'm going to get to. I'm using #25 & #12 VS guides, the choke guide and runnig guides are F series #8. Not including the choke guide I've got 9 running guides. This seems like

Thanks I'm going to start over from scratch and see how this turn out. Does it matter if I move the running guides from the choke guide up or from the top down doing the stadic test ?

While doing a static test I noticed that I was moving the choke guide. Is the choke point on the rod set in stone or can it be moved ?
Thanks,
