I'm putting together a lite channel cat rod. It's a Rainshadow 9 ft long and I'm using a Shimano Stradic 4000 reel. I'll more than likely be using 17lb test line. I have read Tom's book, done searches, ordered a couple of back issue CDs (have not got here yet ) and read Volume 7. Trying to get my head wrapped around this guide concept. If I did this right, the choke guide is 44 inches from the f

Jay, I tried to order the Maniform handle from Anglers Workshop and it's on back order. They don't know when they're going to get any so I guess I'm sort of out luck. That cobra looks pretty good for casting reels but I need something for a spinning reel. Guess I keep looking. Keep everybody posted on what's happening.

Jay,
I think if this works out for you that I'm going to stick with the cork handle. I've been thinking alot about that maniform grip after I saw the picture of it. Thanks Bob for pointing those out. I know I will have to modify it but I have some ideas spinning around in my head which is scarey. In fact I think I'm going to go ahead and order one just to see it up close and take it to thi

Jay, Let me know how this works out for you. I have a friend that wants me to make him a 8 1/2 ft jigging pole for crappie. He has arthritis in his wrist and complains about it alot. That maniform grip looks like a good possiblity.
Thanks Terry

193. reverse reamers
Has anybody used these reverse reamers ? Will they chip the cork ? RodMaker Mag. had the instructions to make them and I'm getting some bits to do just that. If anybody would have any helpful suggestions I would appreciate it.
Thanks for all your help. Terry

196. Rubberized butt caps
I have a rubberized butt cap with a 1/4 inch hole in the center that came with a plug. How do you guys put them on.? I know this is a stupid question but I have thought of several ways. I can use the 1/4 inch hole as a centering hole, bore and recess the inside of the cap a little to the outside size of blank, glue the cap on to the blank then put the plug in. Seems like alot of work but I guess

I thought that a rear grip should be a least to the middle of the forearm when holding on to the reel seat.

202. Re: titanium dioxide
Ron, From what can can gleen from the search, you add the titanium dioxide to lighten up or match the color of the cork. I'll know more about it when I get some and mix it together with Rod Bond and cork dust. Thanks Mick.

203. Re: titanium dioxide
I don't know Ron. I think I'm in the dark about this one. All I know is I did a search on cork filler and that's what was mentioned. I remeber something about Tiebond also. Andy was going to come out with some cork filler but thats been sometime back and I need some in pretty short order. I'll experiment around and see what I can come up with. Thanks Bob and Ron, I appreciate the information.

Thanks guys. I just made my first cork grips and they were ok but that got me to tinking ( which is dangerous in itself ) about how most of the color of cork grips come out so unifom in color from cork kits. I would like to try some bleaching just as an experiment. Once again thanks for your time. Terry

Troy,
I know what I'm about to tell you is going to be disagreed upon, but here it is for what its worth. I'm doing a rod that has about 13 inchs of butt wrap. (I'm jealous of these guys that can put really nice
finishes on long butt wraps without any problems) I've read books and mags., watched tutorials and still have problems. To solve my bumps and sags on this rod I took 400 grit wet and dr

On a feather inlay tutorial that I have, it said to use 811 and thin it alittle. I haven't had time to try the inlay yet but I did get 6 one ounce bottles of 811 that smells like finger nail polish. So do I have the wrong stuff ? I got this from Acid Rod.

210. Re: Still Tacky
If you already have a coat or two of finish that has dried on the rod then its no big deal to wipe the tacky finish off the rod with denatued alcohol and start over with a properly measued and mixed finish. I went through the tacky finish stuff awhile back and that's what I did.
