Thanks for the question Lou, The height does vary along with a lot more differences.... The MW30 is a brand new design and not designed around the 30/8. The MW30 is a SYSTEM like the rest of the MicroWave offerings while the Castaway product is simply a guide. Of Course it is a 30/10 not 30/8. It is a double foot designed stripping and transition guide with solid leg snagless run

Do not sand it.... you are good to go. The extra you see is in case the blank settles a bit or a he-man pushes them together more than you are. Enjoy that blank, they are nearly impossible to kill.

Since CCS was made to rate fly rod blanks there is no CCS info readily available on the Mag Bass blanks. I hope that someone with one can get you the information you need. All blank manufacturers have different definitions of what makes a Mag Bass a Mag Bass or any other blank for that matter. Because of this it is very hard to compare anything but fly blanks by CCS.

I bought the inexpensive crb drier chuck and clamp it into my 3 jaw. When I do a rod with a pre-installed eva butt cap I simply slide it into the rubber chuck.

When using light lines the high frame guides help to keep wet line from sticking to the blank. Very important to get log casts with light line and light lure.
