when using cork dust and epoxy you might want to ad a little white paint pigment to lighten it up a bit........

yeah thats the best thing you can do the benifits of making your own rod is to fit it the way you like.....only you will be happy what ever way you go.....

if your talkin about the fish decals remove the bottom.... place were you want on the blank smooth with finger.... peel the top and your done...........the other ones i will take my exacto knife get the corner carefully up peel off and place..........

my guess Sakari would be once encapsulated with epoxy you should never have to worry about anythng............

for me on my steelhead rods i find also my forearm falls right in the split make for a very comfortable rod plus like Randy said leaves room for decorations .........

thats what im trying to get away from Tim not that theres nothing wrong with what you did but thats basicly the same way the kistler rod was and they way he fishes it wasent working i guess... how i plan to do this is take the arbor down to fit flush with the reel seat outside diameter pre drill my inside hole to the blank then taper the graphite ring to the blank wich Mike explained in your post

i guess this would include the nps reel seats also about having little or no cork in front how this started was i had a customer come in bass fisherman he had a kistler liked the idea of no cork in front but fishing all day with it he said was uncomfortable front of reel seat dug in i guess.....so coming to me he wondered what we could do and make a custom rod ... upon reading other posts i figur

yeah some kind of spatula id reccomend trying this on a scrap blank to get the feel for it and yes two coat process will save you a ton of problems.........you will get nice even finish with no bubbles practice makes perfect

Duane's right Scott also deppending on how you apply your finish is going to make a big differnce also rather then brush on try using some kind of spatula mc. donalds coffee type works well this will help out alot less or no bubbles and if you catch them right away use a straw to blow the bubbles out only use heat when you have to tight wraps................Rob

when you start running down to a 7ft fly rod blank there going to get light like 4wt down probably not a good idea but im not down there either and wouldent really know.....there is a ton of rods available if you can check out some first hand that would help you out alot........tight wraps

i build many steelhead rods out of fly rod blanks myself i use 6 to an 8wt whats the species your targeting???

hello David i always use 25 guide starting out on steelhead rods if thats what your building.... surf rod then a 30........

i would think you tape it off start your butt wrap and then do final wraps at the ends when your butt wrap is finished i might be wrong though im sure someone will chime in

alot of colors would look good... Billys right a color wheel does help chestnut brown is good i like that with copper trims..........

thanks guys mike yes i installed the disc so what i do is go in the program it gave me and i can resize images the cd was picture project 1.1 ill go in there and see what it does

i havent had a problem with it either i marbeled 6-1/2 to 7 inches in front then wraps and then a final coat this far it has been the best ive worked with and im up here in michigan too so it isent exactly warm just dont pile the finsh on is the key i find two coats works great three is a charm............
