GUSA has always been a favorite, especially in th green color. For offshore grouper fishing I like a T80XH Gator Glass meat stick. Something cheap and I don't care if someone steps on it. But for inshore nothing seems to beat the GUSA (Hastings)

Based on what Doc said I am proud to say i am an outdoor guy. i do most of my personal rods in Green or blue with ususally metallic silver or J-metallic gunmetal but I also like the Calcutta gold that Gudebrod makes (only available in size A, I think the color is 9009 but could be wrong.

Loomis makes a great blank but after trying a GUSA (HASTINGS) blank I returned all my Loomis blanks. Loomis has the name notoriety but GUSA's are stronger, more durable, and arguably more sensitive. Plus I just ordered one of their green blanks and it looks really good, especially in the sunlight. I know this awnser does not reflect the question you asked, just my $.02

635. Epoxy Poll
I realize that epoxy can be somewhat subjective but I just wanted to see what everyone out there is using. Personally I've been happy with High Build Flex Coat.

639. Moving guides
I am fixing a rod that the guides were not put in the right place originally. Is there a way to remove the old epoxy/thread markings from where the guide was originally placed so that it is not noticeable?

also, if you are doing a chevron make sure your layout threads are laid at the OPPOSITE end of the dot as the direction you are working. If you work from the center of the dots you'll see your marks at the bottom of each of your cross wraps.

I get a little nervous scratching blanks so I've always used a china marker. Recently I've found that if you push to hard on the china marker you can get excess white stuff on the blank that sometimes works it's way up through the thread. So I found a sharpie marker in metallic silver that works better and creates much more accurate marks than the china marker. And I use this to draw the dots (I

I don't know Jim your DVD helped me out beyond the realm of the Wonder Weaver. I was sure that there were better instructional videos but didn't recommend because I've only ever seen yours. Alan listen to the dragon master and the Wonder Weaver will help out to.

First of all, if you do not have a wonder weaver or loom, get one!! I can't imagine attempting a multi-color weave without one. Without a pecific question about weaving I assume you want info on all aspects of the weave. It would be hard to explain over this forum and I woulf recommend Jim Upton's DVD that can be purchased from the Renzetti website. There are others, however, I haven't watched th

Do a static test and figure out the guide spacing. There is at least one post a day with someone with an especially long rod who is intimidated by it and asks for spacing on this website. Tape the guides on like you would any other and go with what is dictated by the natural curvature of the blank.

I've done it before with a weave that took 12 hours. Don't feel bad it could be worse.

Thanks for the reply I remember you describing how this is done in Charlotte, however the problem I am having is not gaps in the design thread it is gaps in the overwrap.

This morning I tried it and quickly wiped the marker off. I believe that you would be able to tell I used a marker (even though this was the pure black A thread, see one post down) and would rather see a little silver through the wrap than black marker over my epoxy. Billy, I tried burnishing the threads for an hour and couldn't get all the metallic from showing thru. The first and last time I wi

No they are both nylon, both spools are brand new. I thought this was a problem a lot of people may have been having, I'll post a pic tonight to show the difference, stay tuned.

I just did a weave with silver thread for the design and black for an overwrap. Some of the silver threads show through the black due to gaps that could not be burnished. After the first coat of epoxy has anyone ever taken a black sharpie marker and drawn over these gaps to hide the design threads underneath then epoxy the second coat??

Can you push foam up the rod from the butt end? This is to save me the hassle of cutting off all the guides to fix a foregrip.

I purchased a green ruler with a number of holes in it of various sizes with marks for 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees. I use it for marking axis for butt wraps, however, I'm 90% sure it tells you how large each hole (if it doesn't measure diamater and multiply by 3.14) You should be able to buy something like this at office depot or similar. i think I picked mine up at wal mart.

659. Good Deal???
After attending some of the seminars in Charlotte I wanted to attempt to turn my own handles with a mini-lathe. I found a use Mini-jet lathe with 8 tools in my area for sale for $225, is this a good deal or should I pass. I found a new one on Amazon for $249 with free shipping, however, without the tools. Would I need to purchase anyhting additional to turn handles???
