does Fugi make a HNSG or LRSG size titanium guide? The only ones I'm aware of are too small for tuna fishing.

Who makes a titanium framed SIC guide? I'd be interested. I now use all Fugi SIC guides for my rods which are all saltwater, either the HNSG for lighter rods or LRSG for heavier rods.

I've taken alot of gimbals off standup rods with my propane torch and never damaged a blank that I could tell or had anybody complain later. usually there is quite a bit of tape between the blank and gimbal which must protect the blank. I heat the gimbal and attempt to turn it with a screwdriver frequently till it comes loose, pop it off then put a wet rag over the blank to cool things off. I've

The blank is designed as a rail rod and is VERY stiff for a 61/2' blank, I wouldn't want to fish it standup. Since it won't be bending much, the most pressure should be on the forward roller guides. My only concern will be possible line wear on the bumper SIC guide but that should be minimal. btw, the stainless steel tape idea was Mantele's, Upton is just gonna play with it - I expect to see Jim

According the John Mantele, acid roller inventor, Upton is trying stainless steel tape in place of the bumper guide, seems to me a SIC guide would offer less friction than ss tape???

I'm ready to build my first heavy tuna rod(Calstar 7465H) using the All American Acid Roller guides but don't like offsetting the first and second guides necessary to keep the line off the blank. It seems a simple way to avoid this would be to use a "bumper" guide tween the first two guides, I'm thinking a Fugi HNSG 8 or 10 size. What do you guys think? Will it work? Problems other th

Gudebrod Ht metallic is just as strong as their nylon, HT size A metallic would work just fine-not too subtle however.......

I've waited weeks between coats when puttings weaves in the middle of butt wraps and never noticed a problem with the finish without doing anything to the previous coat. Am I missing somthing here??

I've been using only A thread on all my saltwater rods including heavy roller guide rods for over ten years and never had a problem. I do coat each layer of thread with finish. Using A makes for a smaller overall wrap. To me, anything larger than A looks like rope and shouldn't be on a high end custom rod. Larger thread is easier and quicker to put on which is why all the factory rods use it. Wea

Being an ignorant weaver, I still do crosswraps using a single thread at a time(I like the look better than when multiples are used). I use nothing larger than A and use a lot a 00 black nylon as shading between colors Only purpose I've found for crosswraps is to provide a nice looking border for my weaves.....................

Since none of the buttwrap guru's are responding to your question, I'll tell you how I did several. Put on the first to 180 deg opposite dot. Then I just put two more equi-distant between each orig dot. It wasn't hard to eyeball it to get them equi-distant. ended up with 6 dots then just duplicated these down the blank at whatever distance apart you wish. It worked for me.

If your threads are moving they are too loose, you need to wrap them tighter when doing the wrap. When I complete a butt wrap and secure the ends, I apply a soaking coat of flexcoat cp and after several minutes pat it with an old tshirt till the excess is removed and no cp is visable but the entire wrap is wet. After it drys, I apply the first finish coat, I use Classic coat. After the wrap is c

When it first came out, I did a bunch of weaves with it, mostly initials but also several fish weaves. One thing I noticed was that after several years it faded on one rod I used a lot. I stopped using it mainly cause it was so wide the weaves were blocky looking to me. Really sparkled in the sunlight however and I got nice comments from fellow anglers.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I've built many rods using the LRSG guides(SIC version) and always use at least a size 20 for my first guide. On all 50 and 60 and several 80# rods , I used a size 25 which is large. However, it is also bulletproof and high enough to keep the line off the hypalon when fighting a big fish. I acid wrap all mine and the turbo guides, ie, the LRSG guides, work

A couple hints that might help, always try and do the color change the same way each time, that is, for ex, I pull the thread on the left side out and let it hand down loose, then I extract the next thread from the right loom and put it in the left slot, then return the hanging thread back to its correct slot on the right. sometimes with many levels and therefore numerous threads in the same sl

Not sure what you mean by bulges, sounds like maybe you aren't pulling the thread tight as you weave and at the end of the weave. Weaving on small blanks is no different than larger diameter blanks but will require a small pattern and the use of no larger than A size thread. Cam Clark, one of the weaving pioneers, used to do weaves of flys on his fly rods using OO thread to compensate for the sm

To try and clarify, the Ulua and any other rod for that matter can use the rail in fighting a fish and many guys using the 10' Ulua end up putting on the rail if they hook a larger fish. But Seeker specfically makes "rail rods" that are designed for fighting big tuna on the rail and the longest is 6'3" I believe. The Ulua is mainly here for throwing iron a long ways(young or real

Hey Jimbo, maybe you guys up north use 10' rail rods but I've never seen that use for them down here. That is strickly a jig rod and I believe the longest Seeker makes. PS-Eli did get stomped

The rod belongs to the chef on the long range sportfishing boat EXCEL based in San Diego on which I fish alot. The crew gets perverse pleasure out of hooking jig fish on long rods and then handing off to unsuspecting anglers who then get worked bigtime if not familiar with fighting fish on long rods!! They can really get distance on a jig with that long of a rod-great for yt and small tuna. Sev
