I've been catching 100# class yft on my spiral wrapped tuna rods for over 20 yrs and never had a problem due to the guide wraps, plus it eliminates twisting so i don't use or need gimbals....

I've .fished lr out of san diego for 20 yrs and wrap my own spiral or acid wrap rods , leaving on an 8 day tuna trip june 20 on the Intrepid hoping for bft(I hope). I've tried every spiral tech over the years and now have my stripper guide at 0 deg, usually a size 20, last rod i wrapped was a calstar 700M for 40 # and used a 20 for the stripper, a 16 next at about 30deg, then a 12 at 150 deg,

I've owned about 10 of that model TruLine and currently still fish two, one like yours and an OR36 which was a bit heavier. They ranged from being good 20-30# blanks to top out at a 40# blank. That being said, they were all different being made on different mandrels over the yrs. You need to pull on it to determine how heavy a line it can handle. Most likely its approx 25-35 yrs old if it has

Most guys these days are using ring guides whether acid wrapping or standard wrapping. With short topshots that everybody using for tuna now, there is no need for roller guides. Seeker's factory tuna rods now feature the titanium turbo ringed guides by American Tackle. Personally i'd use the Fugi HBSG guides for a tuna rod which is what I have on all my tuna rods which are acid wrapped.

I've seen posts stating the rodbuilding finish will last indefinitely but have never seen anything stating how long the expoxy 5 and 10 glues will last if stored correctly. Anybody have any idea? I'm thinking of buying the quart size but it will take me awhile to use it all. thanks

More and more guys on the west coast are finding that they don't need roller guides for big tuna fishing with the advent of spectra and short topshots. Two of the best west coast long rangers have totally switched to ring guides over roller guides with no adverse effects. something to consider.................

Emory, I've never seen a Rainshadow rod or blank and don't personally know anyone that owns one. Southern Cal is Calstar and Seeker land. 99% of the guys I know use Calstar, Seeker has been trying to make inroads into Calstar's dominence but it's been slow going imo. I've seen many more Seekers break than Calstars over the years. They both will work just fine but I'd stay with those two when

Hi Emory, My biggest tuna to date is 129# and the 61/2 rod worked just fine. A good buddy of mine who was named one of the top ten all time long range fishermen(he has two 300 pounders and dozens of 200 pounders to his credit) is 73 yrs old and ALL his long range rods are 6 1/2 feet and most have Aftco roller guides, he fishes in a harness 99% of the time and is a large guy. He likes the longer

I'm from San Diego and will be going on my 6th long range trip this year next week, an 8 day on the Intrepid. My 50# rod is a Calstar 765L acid wrapped with Fugi LRSG guides which cost about the same as roller guides. I MUCH prefer the extra 6 inches in length over your choice of a 760 and STRONGLY prefer the Fugi SIC guides over roller guides for the same reason which follows. You'll be u

Truline has been out of business for many years. ALL Trulines had the model number written on the butt section of the blank in magic marker prior to finish coat. If yours does not have the model number on it, the blank was cut at the butt section. Very difficult then to determine what model it was or even if it really is a Truline. Wrap colors changed over the years. Early ones used red and bl

You do not need roller guides on 50# rods. I use Fugi turbo guides, lately the new HBSG stainless turbo SIC guides, on my acid/spiral wrapped tuna rods up to and including my 60# rods with no ill effects. In fact, they will cast bait much better than the roller guides will. On the west coast for long range fishing, you rarely see roller guides on rods under 80# class as they just aren't needed

I personally think it looks like crap when the blank is finished between the guides. Wrap your guides with A thread which I do to get a thinner overall wrap to help with your problem. Also, what ever finish you use between the guides usually doesn't hold up as well and the finish on the blank(i only use Calstar so thats what I'm used to) jmo
