I don't know how many rods are involved or how long the temp is at -40 but; Think about removing the reels and storing them inside. Individually they don't take up much room they can keep your socks company.. The rods without reels may not take up much room and may be stored in a closet or rafter. If the rods can't be taken inside bundle them and put them in a cardboard tube or PVC pipe

If you never had this problem before then something changed with your process or you changed epoxy. Review your past activity and look for any changes in your routine. Good luck

Its all a matter of common sense combined with experience how one zeros in on a fishing rod. If one wants to play the word game, yes, rods are species specific, because I would never use a deep sea rod for pan fish and would never use an ultra light for marlin. Yea, yea, there is a guy having lunch with a yeti in the Himalayas that caught a 500lb pound marlin on a 5 1/2 ft ultra light rod

Mike Ballard has a point. A number of these posts wind up being "placate the poster" threads and turn into ego battles. A lively discussion is always good but when it becomes a crusade it gets monotonous and irritating and having it pop up to the top each time a rebuttal is made it only exacerbates the situation. When a post moves down the list it tends to become less important and

I have use the shrink tubing from Mudhole. I used it on a rod that had EVA grips that got hard and crusty. It turned out very well but it looks jury rigged, far from a factory look, but it feels good and serviceable and I am satisfied with it. A word of caution the shrink tube takes the shape of the form it is applied to, if there are divots or gouges or worn down areas in the grip the shrink

IMO; The very process of fabrication prevents the blanks from being uniform. Resin impregnated fabric is rolled over a mandrel wrapped with tape and heat cured. Looking at a cross section, the “rolling” of the fabric results in multiple layers of fabric which may not lay concentric. The fact that the fabric is spiral wrapped there will be a non-homogeneous cross section. The cross section varie

Phil, AAHH the errors of a misspent youth. However, My dream did come true I made it to college (G.I. bill) and studied engineering and with of all the problems ,exams, labs, demonstrations, etc, a rod blank was never an example. Maybe rod blanks are addressed in post graduate work in tune with more sophisticated students. I enjoy reading your posts and responses and occasionally you sli

I have searched the internet and could not find any measured correlation of sophistication level relative to measured physical behavior of rod blanks and rods. Is there a course that one can enroll in to become sophisticated enough to appreciate the measured physical behavior of rod blanks and rods? I must have slept through that class when I was in high school dreaming about going to coll

Folks mount reel seats without an arbor by rolling layers of dry wall or masking tape on to the blank to fit the reel seat. Treat the arbor as a blank and wrap the the ends and center of the arbor with wry wall or masking tape to fit the reel seat, in this case 2 or 3 turns may be sufficient. At this point you can bond the arbor to the reel seat and then fit the reel seat to the blank, OR y

When I am fishing and my hands and grip get slippery or gooey to the point where it's hard to hold the rod, I take 30 seconds or less and wipe my hands and grip and continue fishing. The very few times my hands may get that slippery is at lest for me not a reason to avoid cork. Have fun

When comparing the mechanical properties of carbon fiber and cork the carbon fiber will be superior in all categories. CF is harder, stronger, more durable than cork. So it is seems unfair to compare cork to CF based on mechanical properties only. The major con for cork is that it is abetter insulator and gives a warmer feeling than CF. So it may find favor for those fishing in areas of extrem

Using your dryer apply some layers of epoxy to the tip of the blank when the epoxy cures sand down the epoxy so the tip fits snugly on the blank and epoxy in place.

I think we are splitting hairs. All of you have a share in being right. Both components are necessary for a rigid and durable assembly. The percentage each brings to the party is immaterial. Its the marriage of both that makes it last. As I said earlier just look at the billions and billions of rods built over the years, if wrap alone did the job or the finish alone did the job, economics

The rod will change, how much? From none to catastrophic it all depends how in tune you were with the rod when it was one piece. I have made multi piece rods for traveling and after one or two trips I got used to the rod and forgot it was once, a one piece rod. I would be hard pressed to make a prediction on its new behavior, all I can say is I have done it and the results were worth the effort i

The finish enhances the function of the thread and offers the following benefits: 1) It encapsulates and solidifies the wrap which prevents the guide from moving and chafing or loosening in the wrap. 2) It protects the the threads from abrasion, scuffing or unraveling from hard use and handling. 3) It encapsulates the wrap and forms a moisture barrier. 4) It offers eye appeal and pres

Yes, stainless steel does corrode but it takes a long time and a lot of neglect for stainless steel to degrade. Any piece of equipment will degrade faster if neglected nor reasonably maintained.. A properly prepared surface and a careful and thorough application of wrap finish will encapsulate and seal the guide foot. A periodic inspection of the guides for cracks or damage would prevent futur
