Something to consider in making a decision. Is the rod you are currently using too short? Is the rod possibly too long? Others can make suggestions about what they like or use, which is great. But remember, the beauty of building custom rods, is you build the length that suits your style of fishing.

Here is a link to a MHX Drop Shot Blank that was designed to fish around vegetation or dense cover. The rod blank still has good tip action for presentation of drop shot technique. It is less than 7', which actually provides more leverage when fighting a fish. -- Thank You

Benjie - I think it would be best to finish building the MB874-MHX & FP885-MHX and fishing them before making any decision. Those two blanks are amazing. I would not suggest a extra fast tip. With a 1 oz lure, you are more prone to snapping the tip out of a extra fast tip blank, even on a cast. A fast or mod-fast rod blank will be better for not ripping the treble hook from the fish's mou

Hello Jason -- To help in answering your original question, it could take 9 to 11 guides, all according to the length of the butt grip area and where the reel seat is installed, along with the flex of the 7' rod blank.
